48,000 km Service Rant!

Hey guys,

So I was going to book my 48,000 km service, as I believe it was approx. $230 on the paper. But when the guy did the taxes and everything, the final price was approx. $360!
Tell me how that is possible! Did you guys every experience paying this much for your 48K service? P.S. I'm at 55K, but I bought the car at 52K, so even though the lady that owned the car said she did everything, I had no record of it, so I thought I would get back into the services starting with the big one. Any suggestions?

Thanks and God Bless.

Ben.

Mine was $232.67 (taxes included). Performed Mar 30 / 07. What extras needed to be done?

I'm due for mine in spring, and asked my dealer for a quote. Quoted also around $230, which includes an oil change, so it would be $190ish without the oil change...They let me look at the screen and showed me is included in the service...

Possibly the $360, is with some items not included in the 48000km maintenance, ie...air filter change, its 75 just for the part...

You should ask them why it's that much.

So, I called around the dealers, and most said $228 and change. That sounds right to me, so I called back my dealer, and spoke to my service manager. She said, it sounded right, but when she checked on the system, it came to about $360 again. So she investigated further, and what the system was doing was putting me for the 55K or 57K service that had the spark plugs done for $250. So she said she'd honour what I had on paper for the 48K service. I'm gonna start a different thread about spark plugs, but I'm gonna God-willingly do the 48K service this week sometime, and I'll let you guys know how it went. Thanks again and God Bless you all!

If you look at your bill it breaks down all the parts, labour and taxes. You should be able to see exactly where your money went. Then decide if that is reasonable or not.

Well, the dealer I usually go to, not only quoted me the wrong price, but suggested I get spark plugs, which this new dealer said I don't need till 100K, so far as no flooding existed before, so I'm going to do the 48K service for approx $228 with this new dealer. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Thanks and God Bless,

Ben.

What dealerships are you talking about? I'm going to guess the first one was Mississauga Mazda.

Well lol, I didn't wanna say, but yeah, I mean Mississauga Mazda has a nice facility (as it is new), and the service manager is really nice, but I found the main service rep. there trying to sell me what I didn't need and quote me wrong stuff without doing the legwork that I had to get from the service manager, who at first didn't know what I meant by the $228 bill, but after more research found out that it was true. I then went to Erin Mills Mazda, and they seemed very professional and knowledgeable over the phone and also seemed very real and weren't trying to sell me what I didn't need, so I dunno, I'll try them out for the service and if it goes well, then I'll prolly stick there. Anybody else goes to these two dealerships?

I got mine at Erin Mills Mazda...their service can suck sometimes....
they're the ones who quoted me 3 different prices for my 24K service.

They also called me and told me that the part they ordered arrived and that I should bring it in. When I asked what part it was, they said it was for a recall. I was at work at the time so I just said "ok" and booked an appointment.

So I called back when I was free and asked what exactly the recall was for...I kept getting transferred from the receptionist, to service to parts and then back to the receptionist who then transferred me to the manager of services and no one answered. So I left a message. Never received a call back. So I just never showed up to my appointment.

They called me back but I wasn't available so I called them after receiving the message. Again i was transferred from one person to another before someone telling me it was for the gas cap. The guy said it would take like 10 minutes so I booked an appointment. When I got there someone said it was for the gas tank and that it would take about 2 hrs to do the work. So I was expecting to be in and out in 15-20 minutes and I ended up waiting there til lunch time.

But my regular oil changes and what not have ran smoothly and they do answer my questions when I'm there...

Wow dude, that's a lot of transferring lol, plus the hassle. So do you go to Erin Mills as your standard dealership of choice, or do you switch around?

After that incident I almost switched...but until someone recommends an actual good dealership, I might as well stick with the one closest to my place. I imagine the other dealerships will be around the same quality

^^ ummmm I wasn't going to respond to this b/c I couldn't figure out how to position it so I don't sound like an ***.
So my apologies ahead of time.

But I don't see the big deal here? A dealer can charge what they want, if you don't like it phone someone else. If you're to lazy and cheap (like me) suck it up and pay it or do it yourself.
Hardly worth RANT status IMHO.

Note: I don't have a manual close by, nor can will I for a few weeks, so I'm not sure what a 48k service entails. Question: Does someone have a link to an online manual?

I have a problem with what they did to me cuz they quoted me a price that we agreed on. So I agreed to them performing that service at that price. When I went to pay they told me a different price. Then when i told them the agreed price, they tried to tack on something else on top of that amount...

nah, I was a little put off by a couple aspects of the kit. Mainly that it has an idle bleed bypassing the maf and usesa 4-rib pulley. That and I'm thinking of picking up whatever new RX comes out so I don't want to pour too much money into this. I keep thinking of turbos and superchargers every second day though... It's tearing me apart.
