well I've read all the threads here on synthetic, guys like royal purple say it's ok for the engine and even mazda specifies it in europe.... and plus synthetic is always better for the moving parts anyways and since the 8 likes to rev so high, synthetic are better for holding together at high rpm applications?
I found mobil1 0W20 today (says formulated for 5W20 uses) at Canadian tire but there's only 3 bottles left and I had to hunt around for them!
will let you guys know if my engine blows up :D

Absolutely positive that synthetics are not just OK, but better for the rotary than mineral oil. I'm betting my engine on it!

so I changed it today LOL I tried to do it during the day when it was sunny at silver city richmond's huge parking lot but as soon as I was about to get underneath the car, a guy with riverport groundskeeping came and told me no I can't do that on their property even though he did really like my car, I don't think offering him to test drive would've made a diff :p
so I went over to my friend's place and used her backlane instead which had a nice incline so I can get the car tilted to get as much oil out as possible... everything went good except read my thread in the tech garage about the oil filter
maybe it's just placebo effect but I feel the engine being so much smoother now, when I first started it back up and hold the clutch down (to get rid of the annoying throwout bearing noice), ALL there is is JUST the electric buzz of the rotary, no valvetrain noise no nothing! it made it sound even more like an electric motor now. but maybe it has nothing to do with synthetic would be just a new oil change

fietguy what do you mean? like did I find regular oil?? ummm well yea they've got them everywhere! if you mean non-synthetic that's 5W20, then I bought some pennzoil from lordco, I believe they have non-syn castrol in that grade as well
here's a thread form the tech forum, a letter from Mazda NA Parts business manager
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...5&pagenumber=2
so it seems a lot of ppl including dealers are confused that there are CHANGES made to the new renesis engine from the previous versions

Walmart......
In Canada, good 'ole WallyMart sells two or three brands of 5w20.
It IS expensive though, around $4 a litre, because it is a synthetic blend. (It is difficult to make a5w20 oil that will 'stay in grade' over time, without using synth.)
So if you go the full synthetic route, you are probably only raising your oil costs, but certainly not hurting your engine.
(Eats the Apex seal.......thats funny!)

I actually made up my mind before this letter anywhere from what I read and the people who I know who have had rotary engines before, I will not be using synthetic oil in mine, at least not for the break-in period of the car....i really believe synthetic oil does not allow the apex seals to break in properly so those are my reasons....
I also use use 89 octane in my car by the way, some people might suggest to use 94, i guess there are different opinions to everything...
thanks

I see..... yea I've heard about not usuing synthetic for the breakin period from friends about piston engines as well but I've already logged 10,600kms on mine so I guess that should be ok past the break in period
hey same here! I've started usuing 89 once the 94 prices were a dollar something and I've noticed no difference at all.... plus the manual does say it REQUIRES 94, so might as well get my money's worth for my extended warrenty :D

yeah i think the 91 is whats listed...but its kinda of a 'loose' recommendation, they say 87 is fine but with reduced performance...
i have not experienced any engine 'knock' all the way to the beep, so why would I have any purpose for a higher octane?
so i just go with 89, and i think my car is lightening fast.....

which leaves me to wonder, anyone know what type of oil Mazda puts in their 8's when new?
is it their own brand of oil?
