44 here ... and I am surely enjoying my fastest car so far. The van takes care of the kids, we have a truck for the big stuff and I have my toys ... RX7 convertible for sunny weekend days and my 8 for the daily drive. I enjoy the OEM look of the 8 as well. The appearance package is a must! And although I like some of the mods I see on our younger owners cars, I will leave it to them. In 20 years, our OEM RX-8's will still be on the road and looking sweet. I'm afraid the majority of the tricked 8's will be on thier second/third engine and paint job...and thier value will show it.

Want an example ... Ebay for 93-95 RX-7's ... OEM ones with low miles bring the money!

I'm 27 and have owned the 8 since I was 25. Well .. bought it for myself as a one week before my 26th birthday present (yes ... I celebrate one week to my b-day ... more presents that way). I think that you'll find that the members on the board tend to be more mature (mentally that is) and that the mods that are done are USUALLY minor. Nothing too radical like those civic or rsx boys. Funny thing is, people who actually propose huge GT wings, radical kits, paint jobs or street racing usually get flamed .. and end up leaving.

I am 22 (23 tomorrow). I bought the car in 2005 to celebrate passing my CA exams. NO help from my parents saved the downpayment myself.

Can't imagine a better way to celebrate.

25.....

My 8 is extremely modded... Granted I appreciate the stock 8 and sympathize to those who wish to keep mods to a bare minimum....... but this is how I have my fun....and to each their own.... the mods I do are not tasteless... and who can say "NO, I wouldn't like a 300+whp RX8."

I know the value isn't kept with a car that is highly modified..but I bought this vehicle for the sheer enjoyment of the drive and not rational purposes of holding value.... hence my decision to modify this vehicle.

These forums are BUILT by enthuasiasts who modify the car to one extent or the next, whether it be a fog light accesory or turbocharger. I think we can all learn to appreciate everything this car has to offer.

Keep the MODS coming! It's part of the fun!

53...Had a 7 in the very early eighties. The 8 is stock and I love everything about it - with the possible exception of the slightly rusting wheel hubs and dull looking calipers. (I might just make a mod and paint them). The twenty years in between the two cars were spent buying the house, raising the children, saving for their education etc. while driving mostly automatic Accords. Boring and conservative. The 8 is anything but...

Not a mid life

42

I was informed after my purchase at the ripe age of 40 that I was suffering from a mid life crisis by my wife.

I just wanted something that was a lot more fun than the 96 Accord.

If I have to be having a mid life crisis to drive this car then bring it on.

VR GT no mods.

My wife gave me that same comment....

I told here it was a 4 door car with an excellent safty record, 6 air bags and great brakes....when that didn't work I told here that if I was having a real mid life crisis I'd have a blonde babe with big t*ts in the passenger seat....end of conversation.

Im 26 and loving my RX8.

I got a good job after completing university and was able to save up some serious cash. I was going to save it for a house, but I don't mind living at home a bit longer. I really wanted this car and decided this was the best time to do it.

ENJOY YOUR RX8 THERE IS NOTHING ELSE LIKE IT

Careful Rotten thats heading toward a "mid-life crash"! I would surely get a smack on the head for something like that out of my mouth!

I got a smack...but it was worth it. Sometimes you just have to make your point.

I can understand this....sometimes you just have to do what's fun rather than what is prudent.

Great stuff. So now I know that I have to buy:

Clear corners because a safety feature is just uncoool. Amber sucks. Stealth amber rules!
Strakes because every car needs to look like a hockey player with two stitches on his face. (Mats Sundin mod).
I'm going to tweak the BOSE stereo by adding a 35 pound subwoofer chamber that destroys any attempt at hearing external noise, like the scream from a pedestrian caught under my rear wheels.
I'll slap a Bugatti spoiler on the back to keep my aero profile in-line when I'm pulling Prius torque off the line.
Gotta get a U.S. address for the Tony Soprano Naino polish from New Jersey.
I've already ordered high performance leather cleaner from New Mexico to make the seats faster.
I'm sure the cup holders are sub-par and have investigated illegal Bolivian cup holder sources.
Engine cover is lame. Have found a lacquered cover that sprays neon fluid into the face of anyone looking under the hood.
Rims are rotten Quebec aluminium. Looking into highly valued African conflict aluminium because them rims is bananas.
Hood is gone. Getting a Mazdaspeed 6 hump hood for aesthetic purposes.
Exhaust tips will be made from Unobtanium. Suck in the AT4 format but offer butter splutter in the M6.
Already ordered Space Shuttle plexi-gloss resin product for moonroofs from www.nasa-ricer.com.
Side mirrors are too angular so they're being replaced by Nintendo side consoles.
Freaking headlights are like every other vehicles. Thankfully, there are Pacific Mall plutoniums to replace my xenons.
Drilled billet pedals? Suck! I'm installing metaphysical connections that operate with the simple command of one's mind. (Not for AT4).
Final upgrade: laminated owners manual. Belgian plastic pages. Resistant to nacho cheese and low reflection.

Getting my black GT on Jan. 25th. Enjoy your rides, people, no matter what you do to it. It's all good in my book.

Smile

58 - One of the earliest versions of baby boomers. I liked the RX-7 when I had young children and I could fit them in sports car.

Now I baby the RX-8. Winter storage. I have driven it for two summers and the car has about 14K.

I do not drive it fast but I love to go fast on 90 degrees corners and leave behind anyone who tries to tailgate on a turn.

27 and got my 8 last year. I've had an fc and been an 8 fan since 2001(concept). Bored of the power right now but money can change that. I have the 6spd gs trim and don't plan on adding any exterior mods other then an intercooler

Crap! I'm older than your dad! At least we can agree on the RX8.
