Talking Air Conditioning Problem--Good News!!

Hey Guys,

If your rx8 was built before 09/03 and you have had problems with your air conditioning unit blowing warm and cold air you will be happy to know that Madza Canada finally got the TBS bullet to fix the problem. (As always they are a couple of months late)

They received the notice on 06/17/04. My dealer tells me the part is on back order and should be here on 06/28/04.

I read some posts back in January when i picked up my car about the air conditioner not cold enough. Back in January, I wasn't interested in trying out the AC, but then Summer came, i turned it on. I was like... NNOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I was like, damn, when's this thing gonna get cold.??? I noticed the dial was set to warm, but it's AC, why would there be temperature control on that??? So i nearly over reacted, but all i had to do was turn the temp back to cold

Because you can defrost your windows with the AC and the heater faster than just using the heater.

is it JUST for cars before that date?
cause I have the same problem and mine was built in dec/03....
I can notice the air turning from super cold to mild and then back at random intervals.... and I've had 3 other ppl confirm this that it's not just me reading about this and having a placebo effect

Well I have a dec/03 non-TSB affected car and it blows super cold when moving at speed and not so cold when stopped in traffic. There are probably one or two issues at play there, not enough air moving across the condenser and or the compressor cycling maybe cycling off at idle as there is not a lot of torque there. What I don't know is if there is an electric radiator fan in the car, logic would dictate that there probably is one but I have never heard it and I can't see it. In my Audi the rad fan would come on at hurricane speed when the AC was turned on, when the fan connector burned up one time the AC exhibited the exact same characteristics as the RX8 does. i.e. good cooling only when air was naturally forced through the condenser at speed. I think it may be a design issue that one has to live with, i.e. the car was never designed to stay in one place for very long :-) On the positive side the AC doesn't suck the life out of the car, it barely affects drivability at all. It's way better than any other car I have had in that respect.

My dealership inputted my VIN and couldn't find this Bulletin, even though my car is of the build date affected. So, I printed and faxed it to the Service Mgr., who is following up with Mazda Canada to determine why it's not listed. Thanks very much for this, Serge.

Lightbulb A/C Air Temperature Fluctuation Bulletin

Thanks to the RX-8 Discussion Forum, I searched and easily located the North American service bulletin 07-002/04 which I then faxed to the dealership's Service Mgr. [who had told me a week earlier that it was only applicable to the USA]. Lo and behold, one day later, he called to say that it had just been authorized by Mazda Canada..A/C amplifiers on back order, as noted elsewhere.
" None of us is as smart as all of us!" :D

Talking

It's great to here others are taking advantage of the service bulletin. Don't let your dealer try to give you the run around, Mazda Canada received notice about this on June the 17th.

I had the work done last week. There is a big difference in the coldness especially when pulling in air from the outside. The car now consisently blows cold air from the inside air intake and outside.

A/C: The Beat Goes On

One other little detail .. I was in the dealership this morning checking on Lightning Yellow touchup paint.. out of stock! Everywhere! Trying Canzoomer . The local 3M guy won't finish applying the stone guard until he's touched up two tiny stone chips on the hood, which I do appreciate. Anyway, when I asked about the A/C Amplifier expected delivery date, and the less than Arctic air being outputted, the service man asked if I keep the vent open or closed.
"Open!"
"Wrong, try closing it."
"Why?"

"It's easier on the compressor and more efficient...a constant flow of incoming warm air requires a much greater effort to cool it, than a stable mass."
"What about condensation on the inside of the windshield?"
"Just give it a try.." which I did but for only the short <10 Km drive home, so it was inconclusive. Seems elementary. Any one else have an opinion ?

A/C 'fix' still on.

Guess what guys, i was just at the dealer yesterday asking about my AC amplifier ordered in MAY 2004 .... he went checking and came back telling me there are no part number created in the computer for that part!! Anyone had it done in Canada? My car is in the garage for another 4 to 6 weeks but i wanted them to get the part so i could be cozy this summer.... can't understand why i never heard from them since last fall though.

Did you try the part number mentioned in the TSB?

Thats exactly what I was told. I'll be going into the service department in a couple weeks to tell them to order it with my highbeam bulbs that need to be replaced (long story).
