That owner would be me. Those are my winter rims/tires. I've been parking in Lot 11 for a few years now, but sometimes I park around ICT or some other random location.

There's actually a sightings thread for Calgary, but none of the Calgary owners seem to frequent the boards much anymore. We used to have meets...but not any more =[
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...thread+calgary

There used to be another blue RX-8 in lot 11 and on the boards as well, but he sold it for a CX-7 instead.

Nice! I must say, I don't have my RX-8 yet (I'll be buying mine this May/June) but I would love it if those meetings started up again. Any idea as to why it died in the first place?

What faculty are you in anyway? Just out of curiosity.

Hey, I'm still here!! Don't visit very often though Glad to see some people are still here. I think a lot of us sold our 8's. I'll be keeping mine, although I hardly drive it.

Yeah! Well technically I don't have a RX-8 YET. Why is everyone selling theirs? and how come you don't drive it around any more? It's getting warm outside so time for all you RX-8'ers to come out of hibernation.

Well, when parking downtown costs a fortune and you got kids, you tend to opt for the SUV instead. The car's been out for a while now and most people tend to move on. It's a good thing the depreciation is so bad for this car, otherwise I too would have sold it!

Good thing you didn't sell it! ^^

I am willing to organize a meet if I could get one of the veterans of the Calgary meet to help me out because I have no idea what I'm doing.

EDIT: I'm more of a computer kind of guy so everything car related is somewhat new to me, but I am learning when I can. I also have a pretty fast learning curve when it comes to anything that I'm really interested in (in this case RX-8's) and like I said before about the organizing, I think I should be able to set it up pretty easily and get quite a few people to show up.

I still got mine too... I normally don't check this site until someone posted on the calgary thread and somehow it popped up to my email, lol...
I still drive mine daily... I agree with slowdude, the depreciation of the car is ridiculous... another reason to keep it... I guess its good if you buy it second hand...

Too bad I hate buying used stuff. Whenever I get any type of electronic or something like a car I always have to buy it new because I have a problem with buying used things lol

I also don't like used cars. Especially with a manual tranny. Even worse, a rotary. You don't know what the previous owner has been doing...

I haven't been to the dealer lately, but I'd imagine the prices for a new RX-8 (off the lot) aren't that bad...

I remember 07 GTs going like 32k at Sunridge, and I read in a Vancouver forum that one of them managed to get a R3 for 32k off the lot (but of course he paid cash). Usually bigger discounts for cash payers.

Yeah the price I've calculated is ...

~$50,000 total for the car

Monthly Payments
~ $700.00 for financing
~ $200.00 for gas
~ $100.00 for maintenance

So about a grand a month is what I'm allowing for myself for spending on the car, does that seem reasonable?

Also I am a newbie at all of this car stuff because I'm mostly a computer kind of guy but what kind of mods would I be able to do to the car?

Friends keep telling me stuff like turbo, rims, custom spoiler, etc.

$50000 sounds high lol...but anyways...
Everything really depends on how much you drive it. Are you under 25 years old? Did you get an insurance quote yet? Insurance can be quite expensive for people under 25, especially if they have never been insured in the past. You can take an advanced driving course to get slightly cheaper insurance.

If you plan to winter drive the 8, you will NEED winter tires. If you plan on winter driving her daily, stuff like turbo, kit and lowering may not be a good idea. You may want to clear bra your car as well as Calgary has tons of rocks.

If your under 25 better factor in a large cost for insurance.

I am 22 years old and I currently have a 2009 Corolla CE. I've been driving for about 2 years and have ... 4 demerit points + 2 more tickets I have to go in for

- I forgot to add $200 a month for insurance (already checked with AllState about it, main owner will be under my parents name and I'll just be an occasional driver on it)
- I am also getting Winter tires (already have a few I'm looking at, any suggestions guys?).
- Clear bra for all the rocks is something I didn't know about but will get now because yeah in Calgary the rocks can mess up a car pretty badly.
- In the winter I won't drive it daily, I'll probably end up buying a Civic or something under my own name.

Last but not least, how many of you guys that replied would be down for a meet when nice weather allows us to? Can't believe it's snowing today ... yesterday was so sunny, wtf is up with Calgary ...

Don't get caught doing this as an occasional driver that means a couple of trips a month and if something happens and they find out you've been doing different they could void the whole insurance policy meaning no coverage at time of claim.

How do you get so many tickets in a Corolla?!
Anyways, take it easy when you get your 8 as RWD is quite a different handle especially in the winter time.

Just bought my 2005 RX8 used. Love it so far: my wife and kid call it "Lightning". *grin*

I'd be in for a meet. We could probably schedule something for a Friday night at Race City...

Is that in reference to McQueen? Cuz my kid LOVES McQueen! Yeah, I could probably do a meet. Interesting to see who else other than LittleRX8 still have their cars! I think BlueFrenzy should still be on here no?

I'm really impatient ... lol

On another note, where's Race City and what actually happens there? As you may know I am completely new to anything car related

I used to be a member of the Calgary Sports Car Club (rally). Race City has a street race night on Fridays April-Oct. I've never been (and probably drive like an idiot in the new car), but it looks like a fun place to meet ($25 + $5 helmet rental for the night).

Even if you're all weird (or if I'm too weird for y'all), I can still enjoy trying to make my shiny new car go fast. *grin*

Whoa ... awesome, I'm finding out about things I never knew ...

Anyone care to chat on MSN when they have free time? I'm on the computer a lot because of school and my business and stuff like that so I'm usually on MSN a lot too.

Can't wait to take my new RX-8 there soon and get tips from all the experienced people about the car :P

Saw a Blue RX-8 turn from Country Hills to Nose Hill around 1:40 PM today, I think it was LittleRX-8 but I couldn't get a look at the rims to check.

I always see a WB with Mazdaspeed rims and spoiler over on 24th Ave S just off Scenic Drive by the Canadian Tire in Lethbridge. Looks like the owner works on a construction crew building the apartments over there.

Not that anyone but rubberduckie would know what I'm talking about.

As for meets, I be up for something this spring/summer. I was thinking about checking out Secret Street this year.
