To all the Racers/Drivers: Mosport Turn 4 question

Last time I was at Mosport I was try to work up to going flat through turn 4 (no lift, no breathe just flat). I had crappy hp+ brake pads so I had to back off as I left myself room for the hard braking before 5a. I still have 'breathe' slightly at 4 but am thinking that the car can probably go flat assuming you have decent pads to brake for 2a and a better driver than me.

To all the racers / experienced drivers: are you flat through 4? I am not talking about a car with aero mods or rx8 race cars. Relatively stock rx8 on either r comps or something relatively sticky like star specs. I was on 225 star specs and also use 225 conti spec hoosiers (I am not a fan of the 285 size front tires mentality). I am of course assuming you nail 3 and go through 4 close to the threshold.

I do not go to the very left at the entrance of 3, but about 3/4, rotate the car under braking and get on the power as soon as I can, shifting into 4th as soon as the car is parallel to the curbing on the left.

This is not a thread about internet driving gods, just trying to gauge whether 4th should be properly flat in an rx8 with no aero mods and a good driver.

My car is an 09 r3 with racing beat sways and 1.7 negative camber all around staying within all the other stock alignment specs.

Cheers.

from what i can remember yes, i remember working to settle the car and get hard on the brakes for the 5's. my car was stock running on Falken Azenis 615's in a 255/40/18. i now run BFG's R1's in a 275/35/18 and love them for the smaller tracks Shannonville and Cayuga which i'm sure are overall faster than the 245's. The 245's may be faster on a high speed track like Mosport though.

talk to Josh or Alan they've spent more time than most playing on Mosport

Just to clarify; you are not sure if you are flat or if you lift? How many times have you been there? Or you just have not been there many times in the rx8?

I'm fairly sure but not a 100% certain i was flat through turn 4 it has been over 2 years since I've been there. i've been to Mosport a few times for various parade lapping days but have only been to 1 open lapping day there. I spend more time tracking at Shannonville and Cayuga since they are less expensive and less likely to have a serious accident. i have a good feel for the 8 and tracking in general. I'm usually one of the faster cars with the various groups i track with.

Cool, so you have been to Mosport once, nailed 3 and went flat through 4th. Either bigger rubber makes a hell of a difference or you got some talent. Hope to see you at some track days.

I have to confess my biggest fear in mosport is not Turn 2 or turn 5, its the transition from turn 3 into turn 4 before the hill.

The only time my DSC is gone flashisg with my R-comp on in Mosport was at the transition after the round overhead ad pass turn 3 into turn 4...I was not smooth enough and made the rear end unstable. I can actually feel the rear wanna kick out...whew.

Al did drove my car close to flat-out chasing the Davewood Mazdaspeed Rx8 race car though...
I was riding shotgun in my car for 2.5 laps before Al lapping that matafaka.

my brain was scared shitless and don't remember a thing...so can't tell you what he did lol

You guys are braver than I lol. Not only do I lift going into turn 4 I also stab the brakes before turning in and returning to the throttle. The only cars that dont lift through 4 (mostly) are either a: slow or b: have downforce. lol. When the ALMS prototypes that run about 1:05 around Mosport
are qualifying, the dont lift through 1 and 2, hard on the brakes in 3 flat through 4, hard on the brakes in 5 then flat all the way up the back straight through turn 8 and hard on the brakes in turn 9. The go into turn 8 at 169mph FLAT! Btw at speed they also develop about 3900lbs of downforce!

Different stories for different cars. Formula Vees are flat. Star Mazda is flat. Something powerful with not that much aero like a vett will certainly lift or tap the brakes (maybe left footbrake here).

Alms are flat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DWeejbOZnY

That's why I asked specifically about the 8, it is a low power car on a power track. Should be flat.

From I can hear in this video, Mike Boekdrukker is flat (if my ears are right):
