Am I being suckered?

Ok..I'm about to buy an RX8 and I live in New Brunswick. I'm buying a GS..don't care about a moonroof - the weather simply doesn't warrant it and leather isn't a big selling feature for me (unless I'm physically wearing it ) Given this, the dealer has to get the car from Quebec or Ontario..there are NO GS's in Atlantic Canada. I have the Red Book in my hands and have compared the avg. wholesale to what peple online have said the dealers invoice price is for a GT. ...its off by $100. If I use this comparison, theres about $3700 between wholesale and retail on the GS. I made a point of telling them I had the redbook and the sales manager says " how about we split the difference and gives me $1500 off... hmmm - not sure about his math but thats not splitting the difference
......to make a long story short... they'll give me 1500 off the MSRP and "they" will pay to have it shipped from Quebec. The salesman said I was robbing them blind..they were only making $760 on the deal less 150 for his commission. There was no possible way they could do this any cheaper...yada yada yada.....the usually salesman crap. I said lets do the math here 3700 less 1500 less maybe 400 to ship..thats $1800 they are making. NO NO NO he say..." I saw the book and we're only making $760 on this deal....If I owned the business I would never do this kind of deal" If I give them a $500 down payment before end of day - the deal is mine...... I left..said I would think about it and call him

Just as an FYI, not that I'm looking to add another car exactly like mine to the mix, but I've been told that Target Mazda in New Glasgow have a leftover 2004 that Mazda made them take. (No market for this car in New Glasgow)

Winning Blue GT (not sure about the roof) with the Mazda Aero kit on it (like I have) and I'm told they are asking $34,900 for it.

Talk to Jasper the 2nd on this forum about it. He bought his Silver GT from them. He should be able to get you a contact with the dealership.

*Edit: Just double checked Jasper's other post, and the car has the moonroof. If it does have the aero kit on it like mine does, then it's a $43,000 car marked down to $34,900 in order to move it. Probably worth a call.

Why's that? The Blue looks the best on this car.

Pretty much every non-RX-8 owner I talk to tells me that the Blue is by far their favourite colour for this car. If you haven't seen a Winning Blue RX-8 in person, then you need to check it out before you buy.
Black is a close 2nd IMO, but I'm a hard-core car-cleaning geek and I'd lose my mind trying to keep Black looking decent.

There are a few pictures of mine in my Garage section of my profile if you want to click on it.

*Edit: Added link
https://www.rx8club.com/vbgarage.php?do=view&id=2548

Also added picture of mine that a friend took to give you a better idea of the colour

Damn right!
There are only 4 Blue ones in Atlantic Canada (that I'm aware of) including this one in New Glasgow, so we need to stick together.

Oh, and to answer your question, yes, you probably are being suckered a little bit. They are car salespeople.

If there are dealerships willing to go down to $34K to move leftover 04s that they still have in stock then they can probably come down a bit.
If it is still within the sales persons delegation to do the deal, then hou haven't gone as far as you can go.

Ok, I wasn't sure. If you were at management, then you were at management.
You probably are getting pretty close to their bottom line. I mean, they are a business, not a charity. They need to earn a living too, so you have to leave something in the deal.

That is of course if you don't want to get a blue one for an absolute steal that is.

you've got to be kidding me!!! That price almost makes me want to get sick!!!!! 35k!! my god, with xplan pricing I got them down to 39k i think, something like that for an identical car except the aero kit (which is probaly a fortune as well)

that's a great price for a GT.. ****, i would have "settled" for winning blue for that price :P

I think black is the best :P j/ks j/ks (I think they are all equally beautiful) hahah.. i have to get out of my office, driving me crazy (which is why this post just keeps on rambling on), k i'm done

It could be worse... my car was a pre-order. Not only did I have no choice but to pay MSRP for the car, but I had the privelege of waiting 6 months to do it.
And the car was not eligible for X-Plan pricing at the time.

Oh well...

.. and yes, the aero kit (if it is indeed on the car) is expensive. Dealer Cost on it is about $1600 for the air dam, side and rear deflectors like I have on my car.

Pardon the offtopic, but what is X-Plan pricing? I've seen it mentioned here a few times.

I always thought it was like the S-Plan...like if you worked for a Ford company or someone in your family did...

I could be wrong, though...

S-plan = ford company
x-plan = affiliated company

So s-plan you get below dealer or at dealer, but xplan is dealer cost + 4%
