Another new owner, zoom zoom!
Okay, so after Zerobio, it's my turn.
My name is Andrew, and I'm an alcoholic......... (woops, wrong group)
My name is Andrew, and here's my ride
2007 Velocity Red GT w/sunroof and performance package
- front air dam
- side deflector
- rear under deflector
- front mud guard (Zerobio, my car somehow came with these, and I never requested them)
- OEM ipod adapter
- rear floating spoiler
- front and rear rotary crest
- MS Cold Air Intake
- 18 x 7.5 MS rims
(zerobio), I did find all my stock wheels, stock air intake, stock engine cover, a CAI filter cleaning solution, and a set of lug nuts all in my trunk that came with the car.
Apparently, the 2007 models come with a flat tire repair kit in the trunk? I never knew it had that.
I'm new to manual, so far I've driven it 100km and have stalled about 4 times. Most of them were from standing starts at red lights. It's pretty embarassing of course, but oh well, everyone who learned manual must have gone through this hehehe.
So far I haven't driven faster than 70km, nor have I gone past 5000rpm. This car really doesn't like low revs! I have to park into an underground garage travelling at low speeds in 1st gear, but it starts to hiccup even moving at something like 10 km/h... should I shift to 2nd gear instead? and let it coast in 2nd gear at that speed?
BTW, it sounds SO AWESOME already below 5000 rpm when I give it a quick JAB at the throttle, that intake is crazy sounding...

I've also never had a car without a spare but have that tire repair kit. Hope to not have to use it for a long time.
So 100km and only 4 stalls, at lights. Totally understandable, imo. I've been driving manual for years and have also stalled the 8 a couple times and ... yeah, it's pretty embarassing but no biggie.
Andrew, I bought my car in Ottawa and had a few days to gently break it in. Then I had to take the 401 back to London (about 600km) and just took it easy occassionally pushing it but not much and not for long. Lotsa changes in speed, no cruise, etc. Now have 2000km and trying to find good places to redline. Only heard the beep a couple times. I'm still a bit intimidated by going that high, to be honest.
Take it easy and hope to see pics soon.

I also got those front deflectors as part of the package. Now I'm thinking about removing them to improve the lines of the car (maybe). I don't think they will leave holes but I'm not sure. Anybody know about the holes?

Having trouble with the term "side deflector"..........got a pic or can you be more descriptive? I'm sure it's just me, so I must be having a brain fart.

side deflector is the mazda OEM side skirts (non-Mazdaspeed ones). They run only the back half of the side.
Yes people, I will post pics soon, after the rain goes away, and I put my layer of NXT TECH wax on it. It thunderstormed today in Toronto.
So you're saying if I have the car rolling, and I pop it in 2nd gear, without giving it any gas at all, it can cruise at 13kph without droppoing any slower and stalling. Is that right?
How come I can't seem to cruise like that in 1st gear?

Ya that's it. 1st gear rolls at about 6kph. I think 3rd rolls are 18kph. It won't work up a hill but it works in traffic.

Sorry for being long winded... but I want to be absolutely clear on this cause it's not quite matching with what I've experienced...
You're saying that if I leave the car is already in motion ABOVE the corresponding speeds for that gear, and if I do nothing, and let it coast, no brake, no gas, no clutch... it will COAST perfectly normal and smoothly down to that speed and hold steady assuming flat ground?
1st gear = 6kph
2nd gear = 13kph
3rd gear ~= 19 kph

Yes. (and yes I do have the MS cai)
It might jerk a bit the level out if it's decelerating quickly. As a test, just get yourself going 6kph from stop then let off the gas. It should keep going. Same with the other gears. You need a mini-meet just to have these new car things sorted out.

yeah man, can we meet? and it seems like there are NO SCARBOROUGH RX8 people on this form. Everyone is from Sauga or Richmond Hill......
Everytime they meet it's "Dooley's or D&B", out in the west... Can we do one at like Kennedy Commons or something?

QTWRE,
I think you should sit in my car, and show me the 1st gear, 2nd gear cruise thing, cause when I do it... I fear of stalling the car. It sounds like it's gonna stall!!! or too quiet?
I fear too much

Congrats on the car.
Making a car, with electronic throttle, drive smooth is very difficult. But as qtwre mentioned, it can be done.
The reason why we usually meet out west is because alot of people are scattered everywhere. D&B is central for everyone.
Hope to see you soon..

okay I just went out to try out what you guys said.. yes 1st gear DOES cruise at 6 - 7kph, and 2nd gear DOES cruise at 13-16 kph or so.. I feel LESS scared now of stalling the car..
However the hesitation at low RPM still frightens me. Is that NORMAL nature of the rotary with the MS-CAI installed?
Example:
Say I'm in first gear doing 20 kph, I let go of the gas, it starts to slow down... but it won't slow down smoothly, it will hiccup and hesistate (basically jerk the car a little bit forward and backward while slowing down)...
Is this normal?

I'd say yes it is normal. At this point it's more about the standard transmission than the car. If you're going that slowly in 1st and you want to slow down, just push the clutch in as you get off the gas so that it coasts smoothly.

Pics
Okay, I took a few with my cell phone camera, and one just straight from the dealer.
The dealer didn't have my front rotary crest, so I'm going back tomorrow to get it installed.
Enjoy...
