Ill probably get the AEM. Worst comes to worst, ill put back my stock intake for winter or even shut off my car during the automatic car wash .

+1, put back your stock air box in the winter time, and CAI in the summer, best way to go, a little more work, but aint that why we love our 8?

I had the K&N drop in and the RB duct before I managed to pick up the rest of the RB intake setup used from a local member. Both work, but there's a more noticeable rumble with the RB intake over the K&N drop in filter.

At this point, Footman had his freeze over in the winter while driving along the 401 (busiest road in North America) in rush hour, and Thumper had his crap out after going through an automated car wash in the fall (thankfully it happened at the start of a cruise so he had the rest of the club working to get his car going again). I've also heard of a few others through the dealership that have had issues after going through car washes. Dunno why but this seems to effect a number of people in the GTA who are running the MS/AEM setup.

Personally I'd rather get just a bit more airflow and a whole hellva lot less problems.

I personally DO NOT RECOMMEND the MS/AEM CAI in GTA area. Unless you are prepared to accept the risks in winter. Sometimes we have mild winters and you are lucky. But if we don't, and are getting dumped hard, then you're fucked.

Nope its fairly easy. Just a pain in the ***. Having to take the bumper out and stuff lol.

AEM comes with a bag that goes over the filter to prevent water from coming up. I go through the auto carwash (when i am lazy) and drive in the rain no problem. im really happy with the AEM good sound and all

I don't think there is any question about the products quality just that it is not suited as well for our Canadian Winters.
Like a full on electric car (no gas engine) will be sometime before you see them used in the winter.

Just imagine the power drain when you have the lights on, heater full, rear defrost, side view mirror defrost, windshield wipers going and the seat heaters are on, plus PLUS it's minus 30 centigrade and the roads are really really slushy meaning you can't coast or cruise.
The poor battery might last 10 minutes.

I'm going to defenately go with the aem/ms cai when I can find a good deal on one. I will get a sock for it too. I have two batteries in my car so I wouldn't fear the battery drain so much.

The cai looks ****** sweet too!~

I really like the cf autoexe one but it's a billion dollars.

my setup would look much more attractive.

Well as you see i didn't totally relocate, I still have a odyssey pc680 under the bonnet.
In the trunk I have a kinetik khc600/
I didn't know there was a kit? I just did it myself, ran the line (inside the car) and added in the proper fuses for safety/

I have the AEM and I would recommend it. Sucking water into the engine would only happen if you drive through 24 inches or more of water. The system sounds great although you don't get much hp gains out of it.

^ Thats the only reason i want one. I know you dont get much hp. I just want it for looks and sounds. As ricer as that sounds LOL.

I bought the Mazdaspeed cold air intake for my 2008 40th anniversary rx8. I have had noticeable performance upgrade , with no problems in rain or wet. And it sounds great too. I don't live in Canada, so I cant comment on months of frozen conditions (New jersey resident). I don't know what year RX8 you have and mileage you have on your engine, but the Mazdaspeed CAI is the ONLY one that WONT void your engine warranty. So you should consider this with any aftermarket CAI.

The stock box has awesome flow! Grab the RB duct for $145 and call it a day

I have the AEM CAI, I have no problem with it, no with car wash, icing, nothing...
It comes with a fabric like water shield, I think as long as you have it on, you should be fine...

I am happy with this AEM CAI, but I would like to change to the Racing Beat one... Just to try though =)

I love you . Thanks so much for info. I was really bummed out when i heard people having problems with their CAI. But i guess if i put the sock over it like you said and even fabricate some kind of grill behind the oem i should be fine.

Im actually considering the mazdaspeed one now. Same thing i know but the fact that its mazdaspeed makes it a little bit better

Remember, use your head here folks. If you don't want to void your engine warranty (8 yrs, 100,000 miles on 2004-2008 RX8s) you need to only use Mazdaspeed CAI. Every other CAI, no matter how good, WILL void your engine warranty if there ever is a problem.

I have the mazdaspeed CAI in my 2008 40th anniversary edition. It comes with sock and works fine in the rain and wet and cold.

Think with your head and your wallet, not just with the latest cool item. I have owned five rotary engine cars over the years, including all three generations of RX7s and now an RX8. Warranty protection is good to have,trust me.

If you make the plunge to aftermarket items like turbos and superchargers and other CAI, you will bear all the costs if something goes south. I have raced Mazdas and modified them for decades, but I also had to fix them myself, and that can get expensive. The few dollars you might save by buying any CAI other than the factory Mazdaspeed CAI is nothing compared to the cost of fixing or replacing an engine that is no longer covered by warranty.
