Exactly my point.

If you have the Mazdaspeed CAI installed , then any engine failure or problem is covered by the Mazda engine warranty. I have used the automatic carwash in the winter with my RX8 and Mazdaspeed CAI and have had NO problems whatsoever.

But if I had had a problem caused by the Mazdaspeed CAI, then the engine would be covered. Trust me in years of owning Mazda rotaries, any and all problems covered by warranty, have been fixed by Mazda. You will make the right decision to get the Mazdaspeed CAI and have some peace of mind at night.

You're still wasting your money in the end .... doesn't matter which one you buy ..

But you've been told that already.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy the new noise per dollar purchase

I'll look for your new post on why your car won't idle after you install the CAI.

I have the AEM CAI. My mazda dealer told me it wouldn't be a problem warrantywise.

I use the included sock and haven't had any issues. But the car is stored for winter so I won't comment on it's performance in cold weather.

The two things I noticed after the install were the sound (amazing, much deeper), throttle response (improved slightly) and a minor increase in fuel economy. I didn't feel any performance gain, nor did I expect to.

I bought mine second hand so I paid < $200. I'm very happy with it but it was a bitch to install on the series 2. (might have been the fact that it was purchased second hand and was missing a few parts).

Thanks ! I will go with the mazdaspeed just to be safe and so I can sleep at night. I'm excited about the sound !!

It confuses me that some people have issues with the cai and other people don't.

^ environmental factors and driving behaviour. No two drivers are exactly the same type and exposed to exactly the same condition.

My appearance on 680 news and traffic cams for 401 is proof that that particular scenario DEFINITELY COULD HAPPEN. It's just a chance % that you are now willing to accept.

i have the aem
had MULTIPLE CAR washes during -5 and below that too
worst was - 10
NO ISSUES WHAT SO EVER
just make sure and here is the key.. that during the auto wash.. shut the car off!
then after the was
let it sit for 5 mins..
then after those 5 mins dont go above 5k rpm for 30 mins
SIMPLE!

Hi this is the owner who has the Mazdaspeed CAI on my 2008 40th anniversary edition RX8. I can tell you there have been NO issues with idling ever ! It runs great, sounds great and does make a performance difference. The car is faster off the line and faster top end. As someone who has raced Mazdas, I know what I am saying. Don't listen to the nay sayers here. This is the most economical and safest modification you can make and still keep your warranty. I had the dealer install it and was charged only one hour labor.

Look Mazda has extensively tested this piece (why do you think they warranty it and the engine it is attached to ). So rest assured it is made to work flawlessly with your RX8 AND IT DOES.

superleggera - yea i was thinking about that. It would be safe just to shut off your engine during the wash. Thanks for the help !!!

gwilliams - Youve been very helpful in helping me make the decision. I always like to do thorough research on ANY mods i do on my car before i purchase it. Thank you very much for the help !!!

the reason i would take the aem over the mazdaspeed is color choice..
and the water proof bag that can go over the aem filter.. but i guess the mazdaspeed has that too?

Yup the mazdaspeed comes with one too from what ive read. Color choice is another factor but either way i was going to buy the polish chrome one if i bought from aem. So with mazdaspeed i get the color, no voided warranty (if it true that aem voids warranty), and its mazdaspeed .. cant go wrong there.

Rotary RX8,

You are really here just looking for "reinforcement" for your buying decision. It's classic psychology. You are really happy and praise all the positive feedback on the AEM CAI, and never give much thought and simply "discard" the negative feedback on it.

I don't want to be a party pooper, I hope you are basing your decision a little more logically and less emotionally.

Footman : Dont get me wrong. I do keep in mind the negative feedback as well. Hence why i made this thread, to see if i get more positive or negative feedbacks. Then go from there. But i do get what you mean by that. You want something so bad (in my case the CAI) that you try not to listen to the bad comments and just listen to the good comments LOL.

Well either way i just called mazda again today. And they said they have discontinued the Mazdaspeed CAI. Real bummer !!!!! And they quoted 600 something. Does anyone know where i would be able to order one ??? Any sites ??

Or else i might go with AEM

I asked my dealer and he said some dealers may still have them. Google for it and I am sure you will find one.I have seen the Mazdaspeed CAI advertised on many of the discount Mazda parts supply websites. And at less than the list price, too.

Mazda is only probably stopping taking new orders because the 2011 is the last RX8 and the new rotary engine under development, the 16x ,is not ready for production yet.

My Mazdaspeed CAI DID come with the weather sock over the filter, and it works fine.

Just get AEM dude. do a bit of searching on your engine warranty and how it works when you make modifications.

Also FWIW with the rmagic bumper and no front mesh i have gotten a check engine light twice and my cobb read "incorrect air flow" both times were during some of the heaviest rain i have ever experienced and both happened right at startup.

from what i read, it sounds like a hassel. With all the negative factors built up against having a CAI, why would you want one?
CAI for me....no thanks!! i would rather spend the money on fireworks. lol (IMO)
