The K&N typhoon is worthless. You're better off with the stock intake if that is one of your choices.
Even if you found the noise appealing, the intake causes massive positive fuel trims and sucks in hot engine air. The fuel trims will cause problems with the car anytime you reset your PCM and the hot intake air will actually rob you of power instead of increasing it.
I ran this intake for over 40,000 miles and switched to the AEM. If you're not going with the AEM then keep your stock intake which is perfectly fine.

For the poster that said that NO dealer or Mazda would ever void an engine warranty over an AEM CAI. I can tell you from years and thousands of dollars spent on using aftermarket parts in my race and street cars, that MAZDA DOES and HAS denied warranty coverage for using non Mazdaspeed parts.
You are fooling yourself to think otherwise, this is all business. Just try to get it in writing from your dealer or Mazda that they will cover non Mazdaspeed parts,or any resulting collateral engine problems. Never happen.
Get the AEM if it makes you happy, but just don't delude yourself to think you are covered under Mazda warranty. It has happened to me and I was not covered for an engine fix after some Racing Beat engine mods on my last RX7. I learned my lesson, and like many weekend racers started using approved Mazdaspeed parts.
I may be an older guy offering advice to you younger hot shots, but I speak from experience of the heart and the pocketbook.

Dude - I dont drive my car in winter either - but if you want ease of install - nice looking unit - good performance if not better than AEM and louder than AEM

Geessh .... I wouldn't think the heat shield would do much once the engine is heat soaked.
The setup looks pretty don't get me wrong but I thought the point of the whole thing was to get the cool outside fresh air in ....which I don't see this setup doing.
The front part is going to receive minimal air flow from the hole that's there from the OEM intake and unless the heat shield is air tight you are still going to suck hot air in from the engine ....
I think the OEM setup is better than this because it actually has a duct the runs out to the bumper ...
And you better grow a bit of thicker skin .... your response with a direct insult is pretty childish .... this isn't high school ....
I was agreeing with another poster and commenting on the fact I don't see the cold air induction part of the setup.

The heatshield, even if it is completely sealed in unit, due to its metal construction, will simply conduct the heat and heat up the air inside the box.
Since the unit is not fully sealed from the engine bay, at best you will get 1 or 2 C if even cooler temps than the ambient temperature in the engine bay.

I would agree with those who say the CAI is better. I have the Mazdaspeed CAIs on both my 2008 40th Anniversary RX8, and my 2008 Mazdaspeed3 GT ,which are similar to the AEM models, and it will give you colder air by having the intake outside the warm engine bay area. That is the whole point here, colder air and better air flow.

it is the changing of ur radiator setup... instead of having the fans bowing upwards... it bows downwards and also creates more room for the radiator to suck in more air while driving...

I have a mazdaspeed intake i bought about 6 months ago. The only things i noticed are the looks. the sound at WOT or high rpms and the prise i paid. I live in BC and am willing to sell mine since I didnt want the noise. The mazdaspeed lists for 600-700 brand new. I would sell mine for alot less. Mine only has 2000km on it and still has the cleaning kit. Personally I would buy an accessport as well as mid pipe (bhr or racing beat). If you want to buy mine thats what i am going to do.

I have Mazdaspeed CAI on both my 2008 40th anniversary RX8 and my 2008 mazdaspeed3 GT. In the states they sell for around $400-500 at Mazda dealers. With one hour dealer labor to install they cost me about $500 to put in. I have noticeable and measurable performance increases in both cars, more so in the Mazdaspeed3 GT, but still better performance,faster acceleration, quicker throttle response with better breathing, and slightly better fuel mileage in the RX8. I have had both my CAIs for over a year now, and they are much more than just more noise, and that noise is very sweet to listen to.
Also, from a guy that has owned Mazdas since the early seventies, including six rotary Mazdas, and even raced my heavily modified RX7 in SCCA, THINK BEFORE YOU LEAP with loading up your cars with all these non-mazdaspeed parts. Granted there are great aftermarket mods out there, but you will void any warranty and then all repairs will come out of your pocket.I know, I have been there. Mazdaspeed has developed and makes great mods that KEEP your warranty. Use your head and start here, and maybe you will avoid great expense later.
