Anyone interested in a car maintenance course by the Vancouver Community College?
Although I have been reading a lot of DIYs on how to do car maintenance in the forum, I had never attempted to do it myself. Due to the lack of basic auto mechanics skill, I would prefer seeing or being shown in person how it is done. If this sounds like you, then here is your chance.
At the recent Vancouver Auto Show, I talked to the department head at the Vancouver Community College about having a class on car maintenance. He said if there are 16 people interested in this, he will start a evening/weekend class. The class will be taught by the school instructor with available equipment and garage facility.
In this course, you will learn from the basics such as safety, handling of tools, and proper way to handling and disposing of oil, brake fluids, etc. Also, you can suggest what topics you like to see because this course has never been given before.
If you are interested, put your name below. Once we have enough people, I will contact the program head for more detail about the course such as time, cost, duration, etc.

I registered just for this thread haha. Dropped university after 3 years because I realized my passion was cars (not at all involved in my degree). Now I've got zero experience, want to get into building rotaries for a living, and showing up at a shop for a job (even shop bitch) isn't gonna pan out unless I have learned some basics.

Wow! I am a little surprise that there aren't much interests. I wonder how many people are relying on the dealer/garage for car maintenance service.
For those who don't want to get your hand dirty, knowing about car maintenance not only help you understand how to keep your car in top performance condition, but it can also save you money.
Last month, I went shopping for a quote to change the car transmission oil. The first garage wanted to charge $90 for labor because they said it would take 3 hours to do the job. Since I know that changing the transmission oil shouldn't take that long, I kept on looking elsewhere. I found a garage that charged only $20 because they said it is only takes 15-30 min. for the job.
