trucks are the worst. When i drive to school from toronto to london i stay as far as possible. In the owners manual it actually says a safe distance to keep back and prevent rocks and things flying up.....its somewhat useful, but sometimes, its just unavoidable. sorry to hear about it.

I never follow closely to a truck, and I watch carefully any vehicle in front of me, if the rear wheels are able to toss rocks (located close to the rear of the car and have no mud flaps), I treat them as I would a semi.

Just talked to ICBC and they said they'll charge the $300 comprehensive deductible if I were to get it fixed. F*!!!
I guess I'll be living with this reminder for the life of my car...
For the record, the rock was kicked up by the truck, or rolled off it, as I was passing him. The rock went sideways on the curvy section of road we were on, and hit me.

I got hit driving back from Montreal a week after I got my car. An old Jetta about 30 meters ahead of me in the left lane sent a little rock flying for my car and I couldn't move to the right cause there was a barrier . and left a little chip on my read driver's side door. And I have a few on the front of the car. You can't prevent it in the Toronto area, too many gravel trucks and way to much construction on the roads.

argh I feel your pain too
but alas I don't think you can get ICBC to cover without paying deductable (they'll try to say it's a "collision related" accident since something came off another truck).

I had a rock fly up and hit the top of my driver's side front fender within the first month of owning it. The rock gouged the paint right off and left a nasty bump I bought some touch up paint to conceal it a bit.
I've been quoted between $200 and 250 to have it repaired. I've thought about fixing it but have a feeling that the car hasn't seen the last of flying rocks.
