Lightbulb BC: GreaterVancouverArea RX8 club: Club name discussion

This thread is meant to discuss some ideas about what to call our RX8 group here in the greater Vancouver region. This will aid our web development and finalize web domain name.

We each have our ideas about what this club could become, how much effort we want to put in, and obviously what then: "best describes our group characteristics". In my humble opinion, there is no rush. Let's get the best possibilities on the table first! :D

Also, from the name we can create the cool imagery.
Or, if we desire to start from imagery, it can influence our group name.

Below are a list of suggestions that was discussed at last meeting:
Imagery Suggestions:
- Rotary shapes / derivatives
- Hot Babe line drawing, or silhouette
- Mountain shapes to describe BC

Names Suggestions:
- GVRX8
- GVARX8
- GVA 8 (With Rotary symbol behind the eight)

Influencing Characteristics we might consider:
- What kind of people are we?
- what is most important to us about this club?
- What would we like the logo to portray?
- Where is the ideal place for the club decal on the car? - what is the shape?
- From what distance should the logo be legible (This one is more important than you think!)

If we define what each of us "Wants" from this community, we will be more successful in enjoying the fruits of our labor in the future. It may also be possible that we may form two or more groups to serve distinct inspirations, and that is TOTALLY fine too! The bottom line is, whatever we feel is important, we must share in our own words.

Cheers Gentlemen!

PS: My apologies for getting way way ahead of myself - honestly, when I am enthusiastic, I can't help it

Red face GyroBots aspiration for club (my humble oppinion)

A Breakdown:
- Community website with fabulous sound effects and videos of us displaying like a year book. A VIP section in the web page where we discuss our group meetings, track meets, road trips and internal screening verification of new members.

B Breakdown
- Custom stickers printouts that display relevant information to us. Something to be proud of, like: the logo, our track times, which road trip photo shoots attended, the persons club nickname, how many members in our group.

Gentlemen, based on your feedback, I have constructed this:
Our first version of our club logo.
Your suggestions are welcome!

Version 1.0

My favorite font is 10.

Why not just call it RX8 Club of BC?

Hey Tim,
I think I speak for all of us, thanks again for the tireless work you are doing man! Don't be discouraged as I'm sure that everyone is looking at your ideas and just a little too tied up to respond immediately.

-I like font #10 too with #11 a close second (if all the letters a,d,R were closed)
-I still kind of like the name "GV8club" or "Club RX8 Vancouver"

Also I think whatever kind of graphic depends on the name and logo concept we come up with. At our last meet I think it was too ambitious of us to think that we could nail down all the details for what we want to accomplish to get our club going. After all, that last meet was the first time out for most of us and the frist time out for a long time for others. I think the main thing is we found out that there was in fact interest in forming a more organized club. Or something beyond just throwing a thread out and hoping more than a few people will show up like in the past.
I think we should probably have another meet tovote and agree on some solid direction and leadership. I suggest that we should have a meeting agenda sent out to all our "original" GV8club members and maybe divy up some of the tasks that so no one person is burdened with all the work. Let's work on a meeting agenda and maybe we could present it during our next meet or drive. In the meantime if there are things that you want feedback on, maybe a kind of survey format could be emailed out to us as well as posted on this thread. Call me later on this week let's work together. If there is anyone else out there with great ideas please PM us.

I like the "BC" idea in our name... Why limit ourselves to GVRD when one of our biggest events (or at least the biggest event I wish to have) is going to be all around BC...? (The duffy lake drive)

I also personally think GV____ sounds very government-ish. But of course, these are my opinions. =P

Well, you have a good point there. I just like the ring to "GV8" I could imagine it looking pretty good for a graphic logo possibilities too. In reality all our current club members are located in GV so...

My vote will be definitely font 10.. in fact its the ONLY font that I think fits.... NEways....since we are brainstorming a club name, here is couple that I think is meaningful.
Vancouver Rotory Club
or
BC Rotory Club

with this name, its not only suitable for the RX8 but also at same time more inviting to have other Rotories join as either members or honorary members, ie Rx7s.

Just my 2 cents.

do you know the international rotory club? the kind of networking club that likes to donate to and do charity work. so i think those names would give us a bit of mistaken identity. in fact i bet there are clubs already existing named vancouver and bc rotory club, so the names may be taken. i'm not sure though.

Hi Tim,

Appreciate your time and effort you have invested for the upcoming club, hope i can contribute a thing or two also.

I like the name Club Rx-8 Vancouver or Rx-8 club Vancouver. It's simple and self explanatory. As for the font, thanks for such a big selection. But personally I like the font of our Rx-8 rear badge of our car. just my 2 cents

+1. Simple and straight to the point. Our province has the best acronym than the others. Be glad it's not RX8 Club of Ont or PEI.

Next meet is probably Sunday June 24: https://www.rx8club.com/canada-forum-35/vancouver-cruise-2007-whistler-lillouette-duffy-lake-118166/. It'll be lots of fun!!! Hope you can make it!

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread.... Back on topic now...

I like "RX8 Club of BC". I think I made a mistake in the "Vancouver Cruise 2007" thread that I started... i should've called it "BC Cruise 2007". Now I think people from outside Vancouver are turned off by me ignoring them... =P

2.2 makes sense that way we can include folks from the Island too.

DV8 reminded me of a hip-hop radio station back in my university town.

actually... the more i hear "DV8", the more it sounds like DVDA..... double-___, double ____

If you don't know what that is, google it... i'm not sure if it's appropriate for this website....

But that just might be my dirty mind.... Or maybe it'll be a positive image thing?
