Books for Canadians
I stopped by the dealership this afternoon.
The dealer printed me out an interesting memo.
Here is the interesting part, hopefully without typos:
"We are very proud of our new flagship vehicle and are pleased to share the passion with RX-8 owners. Every RX-8 customer who purchases in 2003CY will receive the official RX-8 "Development Book". Highlighting design and engineering progress along with articles from the program team and driving impressions from professional drivers and respected journalists. It's sure to be a treasured keepsake for our special customers."
It then goes on to say that the dealers can expedite the delivery of these books by filling out a form and sending it in.

This is the best I could do this early in the morning, without a scanner, and with a 100k file max. Digital cameras aren't a particularly good replacement for a scanner :D but it is readable, I think.

Thanks Jasper.
Just spoke to my salesperson. He says my car should be here hopefully by Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. They have 6 of them coming to the dealership including my little Lighting Yellow baby.

Awesome, we get the books too!
I'm glad to see that we are finally getting some modicum of respect up here. Let's face it, our American friends have been getting their cars for almost a month now, they received books, special keychains, updated delivery schedules, and they have access to port installed accessories. What have we got? Missed delivery dates, mass confusion, no gifts (till now!) and a hearty "Just be happy you're one of the lucky 700" spiel.
Do you think Mazda Canada is starting to listen to us??

Canada,
The dealer has the form. In my case, I filled in the information. It was then signed by the business manager and the salesperson. They then sent it to Mazda Canada. I will be receiving it in the mail.
Sounds like Mazda had problems before with dealerships and special gifts for customers, hence the requirement for two separate signatures, and the gift going directly to the customer.

My dealer couldn't find out where to get the form from. I printed the memo for him from the other thread. At the bottom is David Klan's name. I'll ask my dealer to phone him.

My dealer already had the form when I showed up with a copy of Jasper's post. They knew all about it. Maybe you should ask your dealer to contact Mazda Canada. The dealer is the one who sends the form in.

Has anyone received the book yet, or had the dearler confirm that they have submitted it? I just got my car yesterday, so it is too early for me to receive the book, but I will ask the dealer about it next time I am there.

My dealer has confirmed that they have submitted the paperwork to MazCan for the book to be delivered, I will post once it arrives - if ever.

Just received mine. It is a 9" X 12" hardcover book with about 191 colour glossy pages.
Another interesting sidebar. The letter that came with it is dated August 6 and states the 247 hp. Interesting with all of the discussions on the dyno readings.

Dealer needs copy of your registration for the form.
My dealer asked me (today) to give him a photocopy of my motor vehicle registration.
Apparently they need to send in this copy with the form, to Mazda Canada.
On another note I asked them about the horsepower issue and his reply was that 190hp is "normal" at the rear wheels.
I differed with him, I think the word i used was "bullsh$t" but he stuck by his guns.
In any case the dealers can not do anything about it, this has to come down from Mazda Canada.
Sometimes these take time, however.
I recently sold my Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V, and for about a year we Spec V owners knew about a serious defect with the pre-cat self-destructing, possibly due to an ECU error causing backfiring.
I just received a letter from Nissan Canada requesting I bring my car in to the dealer. They are doing a lengthy test, replacing the pre-cats, and if it has failed replacing the engine!
The refit also includes a new set of heat shields, and, a re-flash of the ECU, which apparently reduces richness, decreasing the backfiring.
My wholepoint of this is that it took a year for Nissan to own up to this problem.

My book finally arrived today.
The letter was dated August 19th, so they seem to be taking their time processing the orders, but then ship them out really quick.

Jasper, when did you pick up your car?
I called my sales guy and he never even returned my call GRRRR, I wanted to know if they had sent that form out.
Chances are they DIDN'T as they never bothered letting my insurance know I got a new car!

I picked up the car on July 24th.
I checked with the dealer a week ago, and he said the form was sent in right away.
Hmm, only three days until my 1 month anniversary. Unfortunately, that also means three days until the first payment comes out....

FYI... I picked up my car on July 28th, the book was shipped on August 6th and it was delivered August 7th.
I can't complain about that service.
