Brake pad life
Hey all, at 44000kms my brakes seem to softening up a bit (relative to new), gonna bleed them soon but wondering what else should I consider.
A question; how long have us Canadians gone on the original pads & rotors?
Plus, has anyone switched to stainless steel lines and witnessed any noticeable effect? If so, did you do the job yourself - was it easy?
Thanks in advance.

I did a whole brake job at RPM, in Kitchener, incluiding Stainless Steel lines. Those lines are amazing, used the RUssel ones. Its one of my favorite mods on the car. If I had the AFE shifter, that would be first, with teh russels next. Stainless make the brakes feel a whole lot better.

The OEM pads worn out pretty fast. I've driven 30400km on my 8 and I don't brake hard most of the time. Last week I had my 8 in for the recall. They told me I only got 10% left in my front pads. Any suggestion on a decent brake pads?

Personally, I've not heard much good about EBC.
I run Carbotech's on my RX-8. XP9s for track, and Bobcats for the street.
I actually like the Bobcats a lot for street. Very good bite, no noise and not too dusty for a good pad with good bite. 3 summers on them now and very little wear.
I'm running GranSport GS5s on the GF's Mazdaspeed and they are very good as well. Survived a couple of light track days with no fade, great bite from cold (tons of brakes even in the winter) and not very dusty. They also make a GS6 if you never plan to venture on track.
Running GS3s on the race car and I'm very happy with them. (Had one of my crew see daylight under my rear tires braking at the end front straight once, so no complaints.)

I really like my Hawk HPS pads. They don't squeak and have virtually no brake dust, and i brake harder than the average driver. Plus they are suppose to be rotor friendly(Hawk HPS). I think they are about 75 for rear and 85 for front.

With Hawk pads it all depends on the compound you choose. Their black compound or above will destroy rotors unless the temps are above 350 degrees. As posted above the HPS or HP+ should last a long time on the street and not kick out a lot of dust or rotor wear. Pricing for those starts at $ 74.00 for front HPS pads.

I have heard HP+ on the street before...and be prepared for some sqeeuling..lol
maybe it's just those 2 application..but that sorta turned me away from HP+...
maybe you can also look at the hawk ceramics as well as another option..

I have EBC red-stuff pads for the rears, didn't replace the fronts yet since there was a lot of OEM pad left.. The red-stuff is now almost used up and the OEM pads are still good on the front..
Also, the rear is now just as dust covered as the front in the same period of time.
No more EBC for me.

OEM are great for the street..they last about one day on the track though....
Brake pads are very application dependant....that's why you need to figure out what your going to do with them before you buy them.
I like the Hawk ceramics for the street...and I run HT10's on the track.....that won't work for everyone. I'm not a big HP+ fan they don't really work very well for either application IMO...
If you are going to track hard...you will save money buying the expensive motorsports pads in the long run...cause the others wear out so fast you will be replacing them all the time
