They won't replace it unless you want them to replace it with much less aggressive brakes. Otherwise they just put this coating on it that removes the squeal...

That's what they did to mine...

Can't go wrong with a free set of brake pads. What kind of squeal are we talking about here? Any and every time you use the brakes? My pads used to squeal on light braking but unfortunately that stopped. No new pads for me.

I know that they did a redesign on the brake pads just like they had to for the Mazda 3. My third set were the newer design and I've had no squeal from them. The first two sets would squeal on every stop other than a very hard one.

the redesign brake pads you are talking about are the OEM ones that you get from the Mazda dealer right?
also, if anyone has had luck with aftermarket brake pads can you tell me which ones?

I had my dealer order in a new set of front pads under the TSB, but they are still sealed in the box and will go on the car if/when I sell it.

I solved the problem with the help of Carbotech.
Bobcats for daily driving, and XP9s for track use.
Bobcats don't make a sound and don't dust much and stop better than stock on the street. The XP9s squeel like a dying pig, cover the wheels with dust and make the car do Stoppie's on the track.

the squeel is random. it does it sometimes a lot, and other trips it does not. i only have 11000 km on them, im assuming they are just dirty and do not need to be replaced

You should still ask the dealership to take a look at it. I think warranty should cover brakes up to 20K. You are within that range. Who knows, maybe you'll get some fresh new brake pads out of it for free.

go take yours in right away too, if the dealership is nice to you they may cover you anyways. I was at the dealership recently to ask about all of these issues and whether they were covered or not, but I was way past the milage to qualify for warranty coverage.

either way i should be under warranty right??
I just booked an appointment for an oil change and ask them to check out the brakes because it squeelll alott.. i told them almost 90% of the time i brake. They said they would do a brake check on it that will take 45 mins.

It should definitly be cover under warranty right? I dont want them to tell me I need new brake pads, I tell them no I will find a set myself ( maybe better than OEM?) and they charge me $100 just for the brake check.. I have 22500km on the car so far.

yes they will charge you for the brake check after (20k)...

which makes it stupid, might as well grab a set of pads and change it right out.

Pretty sure they will tell you it's the pads and won't replace it under warrenty..

HATES FRIGGIN DEALERS!

so a little update on my situation .. just fyi

When they called last night to confirm my appointment I asked if brake check is free and they said there will be no charge to the brake check but whether the problem, if any, will be cover under warranty is another issue.. make sense.

So today when I dropped off my car, I asked again if the brake check is free and she said no..it will cost ~ $20-30.. so I thought. watever . at least its not $100.. go for it.

so 2 hours later, they told me there is an updated parts for my brake pads and they ordered it overnight from TO. I asked does that mean there was a recall on my brake pads and she said yeh.. kind of

great! free brake pads!! But when I try to pay she tried to charge me for the brake check... so I asked if there was a recall on my brakes shouldn't the check be free, make more sense that way... . she thought about it.. went to ask someone, and came back saying they will be free!!
so not bad!! free brake check and free pads.. i'm happy haha.. except I have to somehow drop off my cars again . such a pain when they only offer shuttle service to the train station even though my house is like 4 mins away.

mine used to squeel at almost every stop and was getting to be almost unbarably annoying but it slowly got better and now they don't squeek at all. I think there is a certain range in the brake pad wear that seems to be very squeeky. I noticed the squeel became lot less and gradually quieter after I had a track day. SO maybe all you squeelers should go get out to a track. That's the perfect excuse to attend a track day.
I probably will have to get new brakes in about half a year though.

the second time I had my pads replaced they wanted to charge me. I asked them if there was a TSB out for this problem. She said yes. then I said they didn't fix the problem the 1st time. I aksed for the service manager and told him as long as there is a tsb and the problem still exists, they will be changing the pads....end of story. Unfortunately, you need to be a dick with the dealers because they don’t treat their customers with any respect.

If you haven't had the redesign pads then you should get them replaced for free. The way I put it to the dealer on my 3rd time is that by putting out a redesigned pad Mazda has basicly admitted there was a problem....mileage doesn't factor in.

Go into the dealersahip with steel balss the size of a bowling ball...go when its busy and speak loudly so all the other customers ccan hear your conversation.
