Hi,
There is absolutely no catch...obviously I would be skeptical myself but I would not try to rip anyone off.
Here is the deal:
Currently RX-8's are retailing for $10,000 less in the United States than they are in Canada (If you don't believe me look at the base price of a Mazda RX-8 in canada on mazda.ca as opposed to mazda.com
With our canadian dollar being as strong as it is you will save approximately $9000.00
If you are seriously interested I can give you more information. Ideally I would like to take a cut as a broker for the deal...atleast $500 for me to arrange the sale and take care of customs.

that would be poo ... you still have to get the DRL installed, don't get the headlight washers, annoying TPMS (especially in the winter), wacky American trims, etc. Fine if you want a US spec car but I'll stick with Canadian. Besides, if what BlueEyes says is true and the savings is only 3-4K, you can haggle the dealers to knock that much off. Hey, I did.

Ha, touche. I never read that last gem of a line.
FYI, it takes all of half an hour to bring a car accross the border. Fill out the papers beforehand, line up, pay, get stamped, someone comes out and half *** checks for DRL's and any other necessary additions to bring it in, stamped, drive away. 500 bucks is a retarded.

I'm serious. I hate paying for option packages and prefer stand alone options. I'm deciding between an RX-8 and the upcoming Mazdaspeed 3. I currently have a modified Protege5 that sees at least 20 autox events a year. I test drove an RX-8 earlier this week and aside from sticking to the leather it just doesn't hold enough in the corners. I don't like leather in any car, I plan to compete in Solo 1 & 2 and take the car to track days. Swapping out the stock seats isn't an option since I want to stay in a stock class. Why not go with a GS model you ask? Well since my wife and I will be driving the car in the winter DSC is a must.

^^ Well since you put it that way ... that's a legit reason. I thought perhaps you were one of those hyper-activists that refuse to buy anything with animal products . I guess if you can find a GS owner and trade him for his seats ... I'm sure he would jump at it!

Canada Customs does NOT come out and check for DRL's or any other necessary additions. They do collect $209 ( or you send a check) for the Register of Imported Vehicles. The RIV people gets your papers and send you a letter back telling you if everything is fine or if you need additions made to the car to bring it up to Canadian standards.
One more thing...the car may have to sit at US Customs for 72 hours for the car title to clear....or at least US Customs need the title 72 hours before you can import the car into Canada

Hey guys:
This isn't complete BS... it's just due to the change in exchange rates, a new RX-8 in the US goes for around $31,000 US, which is about $33,500 CDN. Whereas, a new RX-8 in Canada costs around $38,000. So you can definitely save some dough, but there are a ton of things to be wary about.
There are NO DUTIES on cars manufactured within the NAFTA countries, so importing into Canada, you have to pay import charges, GST and registration. Plus shipping etc. etc. it comes out to about $2000 - $3000 above the converted price. If you're careful, you can push the sticker price down more and thereby save more.
My Dad acutally has a client who makes a decent part-time money while business travelling, he goes and buys high end (Mercedes, Corvette) cars and trucks and brings them back to Canada and sells them for market value here and makes $5,000 - $10,000 a pop.
Believe what you will, but I'm currently in a deal to purchase a used '04 RX-8 from a guy near Boston (I live in Canada) for $17,000. That's clear title, low miles, no strings, and new summer tires. So with GST, shipping, tax and everything, I work it out to about $22,500 CDN. It can be done, but there are a LOT of things to worry about, so don't pursue this unless you know exactly what you're doing!

One obvious thing: you have to have the purchase price in cash for this to work with the better Canadian currency conversion. You would get the 'savings' in currency up front. Assuming you have reasonable financing options on the amount of cash (if you had to borrow), this could also work. Alternatively, you could wait until financing/leasing rates bottom out as they did in September and October last year.
