Buying an RX-8 this week or next- HELP!

Hi guys,

I need your help. I saw one of these cars a couple of weeks ago and was smitten- then I drove one and fell in love- hard! So I'm getting into one in the next few days. I am looking at a new 06 GT, and I have no idea if the price I am being quoted is a good deal or not... I need help!

I am in BC. I've seen prices on this site as low as 31k for an 06, but not sure if that's GS or GT... also seen $32,995.

Is it better to negotiate on the price or get accessories or both? I will be financing most of the purchase. I have been told that the 3.9% rate is only for 2007's unfortunately.

Not interested in leasing as I will keep this car for 5 to 8 years.

Any help re: what price i can expect would be very welcome. It looks like I will be spending all my pennies tricking this car out with stuff I learned about on this site.

Thanks,

Dmoney, the newest RX-8 addict.

32995 is cash price for remaining GT. I believe (unless it has been changed) the performance pack will ding you $3000 on 06 models. If you finance also add another 3k to the 32995.

I'm sure it doesn't vary across Canada, but I do live in Ontario.

There is a $3000 factory rebate to help move '06 models. There is another $3000 if you cash purchase or have your own financing. There is also approximately $3000 difference between dealer invoice cost and MSRP. I'm not sure about BC, but in Ontario $1000 over invoice is a fair price. What rate are they offering you for financing? When I purchased it was 2.9% for 60 months.

I heard there is a "cost" for the performance package on '06s, but this is rediculous to be charged. The advertisement clearly states free of charge. If they refuse to drop this charge (I thought it was 1800$, I'm not sure) walk away and go somewhere else. When I purchased they had no problem dropping the charge.

So, working from MSRP down, say you can get a similar deal as here, take off 2000 for fair price, 3000 for rebate. It's best to negotiate price only.

I've never seen a GS on any dealer lot. Considering the kind of deals you can get on leftover GTs, do not get a GS. It'll be hard to unload it down the road.

Guys thanks for the input so far, I'm so glad I found the right people to be asking this stuff.

We've been offered the 3.9% for 48 mo or 60 mo, but ONLY FOR 2007 models, and this is a 2006 we're looking at. So it's bank financing, they've given us a range of 7.5% to 8.5%.

I was told by the dealer dudes that the free performance package incentive is also for 2007 ONLY, and my missus wants the badges and the 18" polished wheels.

They're offiering the current total $6k mazda rebate plus a lil more. Do I still have to pay Freight and prep, if it's already been on their lot for 12-15 months?

Thanks again,,

D$

it was still shipped and prepped at some point wasn't it? And it may or may not have been on their lot for 12-15mons. could be in the area of 3-6.

I hear you mac, but the sales rep said 'you don't have to pay freight since it's already here'. I know it's been on their lot for 1yr plus.

yeah, I hadn't heard of it either. May be an error on the rep's part. I'll let you know how we make out.

Do I want the performance package?

Also, i see one of the 'options' is a spare tire- I didn't know they sell new cars without spare tires! Is this really an extra??

if you dont buy the spare tire you get a can of fix a flat and an air compressor that plugs into the cigg lighter.

the repair kit is standard with the car. If your wife likes the chrome bits and polished wheel, I believe Burnaby Mazda may still have an 06 Shinka on the lot. It comes with those stuff already. Unless the performance package is free for 06. IIRC they are not which is lame. All the best.

You get Roadside assistance too and that spare tire will just take up most of your trunk space.

That spare is brutal and looks terrible in the trunk i'd stick with the flat kit.

I see they changed the advertisement and are no longer offering the performance package on "new" 06's. that sucks i guess but it's nothing major or a deal breaker.

Why are you opting for bank financing? Mazda's interest rate is much lower and as long as the 2006 car you are hoping to buy hasn't been titled yet you are eligible to use it. If they are not letting you use it I'd be very cautious they might be trying to push a used car on you. Also, financing on a remaining 2006 model would be even less than the offered 3.9% of the 2007.

If it's a leftover car, the dealership had to buy it from Mazda at the end of the year and put it on their book to get the cash incentives. So leftover cars are not eligible for the lease/finance programs offered by Mazda financing, and you'll have to pay retail interest rate for a car loan. It might be cheaper to finance it with the bank yourself.

That makes great sense, except I purchased mine and financed through Mazda. How?

Mazda.ca had the finance/lease info for remaining 06 mazdas until recently. Now it's all 07. So perhaps until recently Mazda allowed finance/lease on remaining 06. If this option is available, you can calculate which makes better financial sense b/t bank vs. mazda (but may not get cash discount though).

so if $32995 is the 'cash' price for remaining 2006's, and I'm not using Mazda financing because it is not available on 06's, then i will be financing at whateve bank rate I can negotiate on my own or going to my own bank..

What is a good 60-month car loan rate in Canada? 7%?

Thanks,

D&

Talking GT only! Good luck on the purchase!!!

I'll add my two cents...

First off the GT model has the Moon Roof / sun roof which I ended up liking a LOT more then I thought when I first picked up the car.

Second the GT model has the Traction control while the GS (I'm told) does not.
- If that is the case, get the GT model. It has SAVED my life twice. If you want to hear the stories, message me and I'll tell you.

If you get the GS package, I swear, you will regret it in the long run... why would anyone not want to get the custom traction control system? it makes the RX8 so much more capable when you loose control.

IMO: The car isn't an RX8 unless it has that traction control system. I wouldn't be writing this message to you right now if I didn't get the GT package. (twice over).

Please get the GT package, we want you to be safe. IMHO you will enjoy your car to it's maximum potential.

Good luck on the purchase!!!

if u want to mod that thing into a RX7.5 .. u get GS if not GT is ur only choice.
