Oh yeah one more thing about the recall letter. Do I have to get one from the states cause it was originally from there or can I just get one from any dealer in canada ? When do I do all this ? I'm overwhelmed with the amount of documents and when to get them etcc right now.

The "recall" was/is a Mazda North America Operations (MNAO) thing which includes Canada, so a local dealer is fine.

Alright so here is an overview of what I plan on doing. Can you guys go over and see if I'm missing anything.

1) Run a carfax (done) and a carproof (which i will do tomorow at work)

2) Meet with him tuesday. Have my mechanic check out the car. Now at this stage, ill decide whether to buy the car. If i do ill give him a deposit (a small amount so he doesnt sell the car, and plus he said he wouldnt fix the lien until he gets a deposit). Now when i go tuesday what sort of documents and papers should i be looking for from him?

3) Wait for him to email or call me to let me know the lien is fixed and that he has proof.

4) When he contactss me and says the lien is released .. Go get temperary insurance and any other required registrations (clarify this if you can please). Also get a recall letter.

5) When everything is done, meet back another day. Pay him the rest of the car. And take the car home.

6) register the car.

Thanks

Alright so there has been a change in the meet up time. Because the time is both innappropriate for me and him. We have agreed to meet sunday at his house in hamilton. He has home the whole day. Now i told him that, if we meet sunday that if he can try to get the lien resolved. And he did and he sent me a letter from his bank saying the lien is done. Now im a bit skeptical as to whether its legit or not because 1) there is a spelling error and it says "the the loan" and 2) he said it would take approx. 30 days to be changed on the uvip when i requested. But he said he would give me the uvip when i change ownership.

my question is:

1) does it really take about 30 days to get changed on the uvip ?

2) How can i check whether or not he infact took care of this matter? Can i call the bank ?

Help please.

the only way to really check is to do a compression test.. ur better off buying it from a dealer for 2 reasons..

1. they have 2 do a safety and check the car over before selling and
2. you can knock the price down hard because he probably wont see a customer on an rx8 for a long time.. and he probably has a mark up for atleast 3000$ i know cause i was a salesman with mazda before. i can probably help you get one my best buddy owns a mazda dealership in Ottawa he can go to an auction get you one there and charge you like 1500 over auction price and then you have an awesome deal ... let me know

Call the bank! Is there a reference number of some sort. Likely they will not want to discuss details with a stranger on the phone, but offer to fax it too them and have them verify it's authenticity. There must be a signature on it from a person from the bank. Ask to speak to that person.

Give them a call!

Yes there is a signature of someone but i was thinking it could be forged. It looks legit, there are dates and time etc... and even ays "Member of TD Bank Financial Group" in fine print. t this point, there is so much going on with this car that i might go back to the 21 OTD one. Is this worth it to even call the bank ?

He has emission tested it and safety certified it. He sent me a scan of those 2 things along with a carfax and the letter from the bank. But right now, im debating whether to drop this one and go back to the 05 for 21 OTD. Its got 35 300 km on it but i know the price is alot.

If the document is the only thing holding you back at the moment, call the person that signed it. Tell them you are only interested in them verifying that the document is authentic. Fax or email a PDF version of it and get them to confirm. This is the best way to know for certain! Then take your next direction accordingly.

Alright ill give the person who signed it a call tomorrow. Now he said it would show up on the UVIP that the lien has been resolved in about 30 days. Is this true ? So it would mean that when i register the car, that it would have a lien on the car. Can anyone clarify this.

One more thing, if the signer says everything is fine and he did infact take care of it. Would i be able to bring back the car sunday when i go check it out. Is there a way to get insurance for a car you are GOING to buy ?

yea you can get insurance instantly when you talk to your broker just provide him with the vin and your licence thats all... and for the lien clear, it takes time for that just have proof on paper that its been cleared.

Yea i have done alot of research on this car. Is it possible to speed up this process of having the lien taken off the title ? Thatd make me feel alot more confident to buy this car. Can the owner speed this process up in any way ?

not much you can do there aslong as you have proof on paper that the lien is taken care of i wouldn't worry too much, make sure to post some pictures of the car once you have it.. and possibly with a naked lady of some sort on the car doing provactive posses and telling me how bad i am and so on... that would be just lovely lol
