Buying a used 8

Buying a used 8
I'm looking at this used 2004 8. Looks mint, very low km.
I guess it's up into the air as to whether it's been broken in properly. I may look into purchasing an extended warranty to cover any possible issues (pricey, I know but I'd rather have the peace of mind and I really can't afford a castastrophic repair post-regular warranty period AND it's a rotary for gosh sakes).
In any event, are there any tests a mechanic can do to determine the health of the engine? Compression tests? If so, what numbers am I looking for?
One of the reasons this post is in the Canada forum is that I'm looking for a West end shop (Mississauga) that can do the above tests and diagnostics. Any recommendations? Would it have to be a Mazda dealership?
TIA

daddy; buy the warranty for peace of mind; as for the condition of the car, its gonna be tough to tell anything w/o having a completely impartial dealer look at it, tho i would try that just to be on the safe side;
when you test the car, make sure the engine sounds like a new one, the shifter should be smooth in all gears and at all revs (b/c its broken in) and small bumps should be eaten up w/o any real noise from inside or outside the cockpit; do a couple of quick stops and feel the response; once i tried all this, id test a brand new one and try to compare like that; hope it all works out and if it does youll have yourself a heck of a car;
