Too bad I won't have my newly turbo'd 8 there then..... **** it feels so good....
#32
I should be able to come... depending if I put the batteries back on. Good thing it's at a mall so my wife and kid can shop. Any other old timers still have their cars and still in Calgary?
#35
And yeah 1 pm in front of sportcheck sounds good to me!

Guess who got his 8 back today? :D
I will most definitely be there on the 16th, and I will most definitely have a ladyfriend (or I guess two... My car and a date) with me. Looking forward to meeting all of you!
BTW, does anyone own a silver RX8 and happened to be driving on Canyon Meadows Dr, near bowbottom today, at around 8pm? I was in the white one :P

Extremely slow, as I'm following the break-in procedure, and not revving over 4k rpm, but the engine seems to be responsive and healthy. Going to drive as much as I can so I can hopefully hit the 2400 km point (end of breaking it in) by the 16th. Don't want everyone to go driving and me be tailing everyone :P

Like they said there i only did a 1000 miles (1600 kms) break in period instead of 2400 kms BUT i actually waited till 2000kms before hitting 9000 rpm. Im sure you can find some info on that link

Yeah, I'm basing it off of the FAQ. I may cut it short as well, as 2400KM is BRUTAL, but I want to make sure she is running perfectly. Just ran into my old TCS/ABS failure issue again, so she'll be back in the shop fairly soon, but I'm not too worried. I can fix it temporarily by restarting the engine. I only go about 50km/day normally, so I've been cruising out in the country a lot today. I'd love to have her broken in by saturday morning (I've got a date), but I doubt I'll pull off 800KM/day :P
So pumped for the 16th though guys. This'll be INSANE!

lol 2400km below 4k rpm would kill me, and it would take forever!!
what's a new engine running these days and did you get that done in Calgary? or DIY?
been thinking about it but will probably get body / paint done this year to repair the damage from the previous owner.

Compiled a list of everyone who has replied so far. Quite the epic turnout!
Coming:
RitchieRich
Fyfer
georgemagana
SpenserJ
dying_here
philsbluerx8 - No more RX8, so cruising on a motorbike
Kurogane
Chizzang
LiTTleRX-8
Vulkan
MrAdam5 - Pending weather
SlowLude
jrbirch
zeddy - Likely able to come
Maybe:
azzuro - Weather
Not coming:
RotaryMachineRx
Team_Mclaren - No due to gravel
RXallen - Prefers a summer type meet
14 yes, one maybe, three no (but yes for a later date probably).
I've got no clue about new engine prices. Mine was under warranty. Kramer Mazda swapped it out for me. And its not 2400 KM under 4k rpm, it goes as follows (taken from the FAQ and rounded for KMs):
- 0-1000 km Follow the Manual, but keep it under 4000 RPM
- 1000-1300 km Open it up a bit, vary accelerations and speed RPM < 5000
- 1300-1600 km Drive the car, enjoy it but still keep RPM < 6000
- 1600-2000 km Drive it as it's power curve intended it to be RPM < 7000
- 2000-2400 km Test the car frequently from RPM 6000-9000 in every gear
No redlining until at least 2k km, but I start opening her up slightly in another 700km.
