Calgary Cruise - Sunday, June 12
Yeeeeeeeeeehaw y'all! :D
Rotten suggested we start a thread to get ideas for when/where to meet and where to drive to.
Any ideas?
I was thinking...Highway 1A out to Cochrane and then to Kananaskis.
But that may be too long for some people??
THE PLAN:
:D Sunday, June 12
:D Meet at 1 PM outside Crowfoot Theatres.
:D 1st drive to Cochrane
:D then out to Kananaskis area

You jerk! Now we're tied :D wooohoooo
1 PM outside Crowfoot Theatres sounds good to me.
I'm not sure where in Kananaskis but I know if you keep going south on Hwy 40 it gets REALLY windy...there's a couple lakes up there too.

Doh! Another day that simply won't work for me, too much family stuff going on. (Check the very bottom of the main forum page on that day to see why! )
I'd really like to make one of these meets/drives! Oh well, I'll keep my fingers crossed for the next one.
Regards,
Gordon

As I mentioned, I can't make a Sunday June 12 drive - but I will invite all of you to a much more interesting drive on the evening of Thursday, June 16!
The Calgary Miata club has the south end of Race City Speedway booked for that night, and we always welcome anyone who doesn't mind a few rules! We run an autocross-style event, 1 car on the track at a time for 2 "laps" of the south end of the road course (layout varies, but it's usually about a 1:30 - 2:00 minute run. We don't get nearly as many cars as the Vintage Racing Club or Sports Car Club, so typically you can get in 8+ runs easily. Cost is ~$45, and a Snell90 or better (motorcycle) helmet is required. Usual autocross prep rules, all loose objects must be removed from the car, etc, no big deal.
So, anyone interested? I brought my RX-8 to one of those events last year instead of my Miata, and it surprised a lot of people with how quick it was. It's a great opportunity to test the limits of the car (and driver ) (although I will caution that while it is pretty safe, it is possible to bend your car if your are intent on exceeding the limits of either. I rode with a Cobra SVT (supercharged, 400+ HP) driver last month who pushed too hard, slid off track, and nearly hit a concrete corner workers stand).
I will definitely be there (likely in the Miata, though), and we'd welcome you RX-8 guys to join us and have some fun. Let me know!
Regards,
Gordon

I'd love to go, Gord. A couple questions, though:
(1) I've never raced/driven a track before, would this be an ok night for a "beginner"?
(2) I don't have a helmet. Would there be one there that I could borrow? If not, can you suggest a good place to buy one from. I barely have head room as it is (damn sunroof!), so I'm not looking forward to wearing one...

So it looks like there might be a whopping 3 of us? Blue, you in?
Where's everyone else that keeps saying they want to make it out to the next meet? This is your chance! :D

Ehhh sorry guys ... just found out that I have to work a half day tomorrow. So it looks like it'll be khtm and rotten doing their thing in the wilderness. Khtm, you seem to have a thing with wilderness, luring naked men into lakes and pictures.

I'm coming too. In fact, it was me who suggested the meeting place and time.
However, I'll join you guys on the trip to Cochrane, but not for the Highway 40 jaunt. I have some things to do this afternoon in Calgary.
See you then!
