Car wash

Car wash
Anyone know a good place to wash your car. I don't trust these commercial car washes even a touchless. They use some strong chemicals to get the dirt off, which can damage you paint over time. I want to give it a good wash before I park it for winter.

Sorry G, I can't think of any in your part of town.
If you come out to the west end via the 401, though, there is pretty good one on Weston Road just south (like about 30 seconds south) of the 401... has the big timer and the beeper so you know how much time you have left...

I haven't used the hand washes up until now - only the touchless ones (on the Accords) - so I'm not familiar with anything in Scarborough. I wouldn't think the touchless washes would do that good a job before putting the car away for the winter anyway. The weather this week should work on a south facing driveway in the afternoons though - if you have the time. I did mine yesterday. Of course, the neighbours and the other half continue to think I'm nuts!

Love the New Esso Touchless Washes ... 2 out of 3 washes I use the do it yourself high pressure .. but then 1 out of 3 I go through a touchless .. started out with a new one at Shell and then a little older one with Sunoco .. all got me into a track..worried about my big wheels.. and pulled me through their wash... Esso on the other hand gets me to drive in.. get in a stationary position and has this one robotic arm do it's thing.. and does it do it's thing..best of all the last rinse seems to put a spotless rinse on the car... drying vents are not the best... so I drive like a street fightin man and let mother nature and my speed dry my batmobile..

give your car a good waxing (with something longer lasting like Nufinish or other synthetic stuff) before winter and you can use the touchless without worrying the chemicals will damage your paint.

I hear they're bad for your wipers?
Or you can just get a bottle of eagle one wax as you dry and go through the car wash and then use that stuff as you dry it with a chamois outside the car wash.
Actually, I think an automated carwash is a good idea in the winter since all the sand and salt gets stuck onto the car and if you wash it by hand no matter how careful you are you're gonna rub some of that sand into the car when you clean it. But if you do it with a power washer or a car wash, it probably won't be as abrasive if you washed it with a mitt by hand. So before you wash it yourself by hand in the winter or if your car's dirty, probably be best to blast it with power washer (not too close!) first to loosen most of the sand and grit before you wash it with a mitt.
