Careful reminder to all (GTA area): Temps + Tires
Looking at the long range forecast, next Tuesday calls for highs of 12, but lows of -2. There isn't snow yet, but if you're planning to stay out late at night, take extra care while driving if you haven't switched to winter tires yet. Most summer tires are like hockey pucks at those temperatures < 10 C...
I can't believe its getting cold so fast... I might have to switch to winters by Halloween this year.

thanks for looking out for us all Andrew, you forgot to remind us to put on our coats when we go out and play or will catch colds lol jk i noticed tonight it was getting nice and cold my tires where square for the first few km's

Also, a reminder, guys that keep their cleaning stuff in the garage, your car care products, think its time to bring them into the house.
Some of them seperate when it dips below 0, so heads up.

I didn't know the temperature is going to dip that low at night. I think I might have to order winter tires through the rack sooner than I thought!

Thanks for the head ups!
Personally I don't put on my winters until the first snow fall warning. If the temp rises to much or if you are driving around when the roads are warm/hot it wears down the winters fast as ****.

My summer tires are already bald and suck. I will ride them out as long as I can. I'm sure glad that I bought some winters though.
And like Pros said, I've learned the hard way about keeping cleaning products outside all year round.

2nd gear - WOT
Hit the bump 1/4 up the ramp - slight left turn
car gets real light - lands - rear wheels spinning
car lands with a bit of yaw angle.
tail wags +/- 10 degrees in an Ohh-**** type of move.
DSC saves the day.
Yes - cold + wet roads + 369 lb-ft of torque+ 3800lbs of sedan = caution.
RX-8 it was not - but I thought I'd share my story of caution.
Note - no homeless people were injured in this story.
Miss the beap, but lovin' something called torque.
Traded torque curve of 4500-9000 for 2000-7250.
The way I see it - I gained 750 rpm of usable engine speed.
RX-8 - 170hp, 140 lb-ft to the wheels? 13.8L/100km, 3000 lbs
Now - Close to 2x the power and torque + 25% more weight, and BETTER fuel economy.
When is the RX-8 going to get a direct injection rotary?

My winters come on by end of this month! I drove in today and in 5C, I was drifting while turning. I personally loved it as the roads were empty; but it must stop!

The threshold is about 7C. But running winters at 25C isn't a problem - they don't disintegrate.
I've heard of people running solo2 comps on winters and doing quite well.
We aren't talking about S rated studded huge shoulder block snow tires here - we are talking about high performance V rated or better snow tires.
No problems with heat - they just get a bit squishy.

Rotator - do some reading/research on blizzaks studless ice and snow.
Of course you can run them at 25C, but wear them down much much faster. It's all personal preference man, but I want my winters to last 8 - 10 years as did my old ones on my other car. Not running them when it's to early for them, or late in the season.

I wouldn't run tires more than 6 years - regardless of the tread depth.
An Aussie mag did a tire test and found traction differences in as little as 1 month from manufacture. Can't imagine what 10 years will do.
I had a winter pirelli winter tire blow up on me - when OFF the car. It was about 6 years old at the time. Old tires just aren't safe - even when stored properly.

LOL...Well I had Micheline Alpine tires and when my car was stolen, I even sold them good for another winter or two of use. Got my old car in '96 Acura Integra GSR stolen '07 same winters every year. Believe what ever ya want, I will go with my own personal experience.

Im putting mine on this thursday just to be safe since I tend to drive quite a bit at night time. but will probably drive the Civic when it's warm out... (i know it should be the reverse 
... but i need to do my 48K service and they're swapping them free so might as well take advantage of that)
