Catalytic Converter
Hi all,
I've just been informed by my wonderful dealer that my catalytic converter is toast (after they replaced the ignition coils and spark plugs)... He's quoting me at about $2400 all in, and I'm seeing quite a few options south of the border for about $500-800, but the only problem is, I'm not sure which one(s) are going to get me through aircare - I have a 2004 which will require aircare this fall. Any ideas where to look?

If you're going for compression tests and stuff to see about engine replacement, you might want to avoid aftermarket as Mazda Canada might void the warranty if your dealership explicitly marks you as having an aftermarket one.
If you're just going to a straight replacement, I'd look to BHR's midpipe and get theirs with the O2 sensor holes and catalytic converter (this way you *shouldn't* get CEL errors).

Make sure to check if it is covered under warranty. The catalytic converter is covered for longer than most components on the car - its the "emissions warranty".

BHR cat won't pass emissions -- it's a 100cpi metal core cat. I believe the OEM one is 1600cpi ceramic (could be wrong). At least, not if they are using a sniffer test on the dyno. Not sure what they do in BC but that's what they do in Ontario. If they just do a scan then you might be ok.
You *might* be able to get away with a non-OEM cat if you can do a 2-stage idle test instad of the dyno test. That's what I got done on my car since it didn't clear the dyno (too low) and all my readings were --literally-- at 0 (but that was with the OEM cat).

He's from Mississuaga wcs, a bunch of us met up in 2008, which headed to the ballet afterwards.
I'm on an unintentionally made gutted cat. **** timing got my claim denied, however Mazda better swap it out this year or I will be dropping this cat off on their guest services desk at Vogel Dr.
