Charity Parade Laps @ Mosport, Sept 2012
Date: Sept 16, 2012
Time: Arrive at track and sign in no later than 10:45am.
What you get: 20+ minutes of "performance pace" parade laps around CTMP Grand Prix track.
Rules: LOTS, but the basics are no passing and no weaving. Helmets are not required. Everything that's not secure in the car is to be put in the trunk.
There are only 25 spots available, so sign up fast. Because this is for charity, would like to see minimum $20 donation.
ROUND 1 signups
Sign up in 2 steps:

B) Send your donation by Interac E-mail transfer to me at: andrew.kswong@rogers.com OR if you happen to see me at a meet, you can donate to me in an envelope with your name on it marked "Sick Kids charity laps"
Once both are completed, you will be on the list! Those who have signed up and haven't donated by August 31 will have their name removed from the list to allow room for round 2 signups.

Interac E-mail transfer is easy and safe. If you already do online banking with your financial institution, then it's probably already setup for you. You only need your name and your email to register. Check your financial institution's web-banking page for info.

To all the newcomers who haven't done this before or have only had the chance last week at the Mazda sponsored parade-lap, historically, these laps that we are doing, we hit speeds of 170 - 180 on the backstraight, and about 110 - 130 on turn 1. It is more of a hot lap than a "parade lap". It is a really exhilarating ride that you must be very careful to ensure your tires/brakes and driving abilities are up to standards.

The concrete all around the pit exit lane as you accelerate out @ WOT
Blasting into turn 2 - blind, off camber, dual apex, downhill woo hoo!!
Downhill on turn 4 into the great braking zone for turn 5a
Concrete walls waiting patiently for any mistakes.
Preserving as much speed as possible out of 5A and 5b for the long haul up the back straight.
Ah, the esses which you enter with the highest speeds on the lap...
Follow the line of the experienced guys and don't bend your car! It's a long walk home!
This WILL demonstrate your suspension and alignment balance
This WILL make you appreciate what it takes to go fast on this track.
This WILL suck gas from your tank at an alarming rate
This will show you any weaknesses in your car

Great response so far guys! 2 Little things..........I would appreciate it if you would invite the RX7 guys (probably 1 or 2 will show) and keep Mazda Canada out of it. I most likely wont be using a Mazda pace car, it will either be an Evo or Scion FRS unless someone wants to volunteer their RX8. I would rather have another company match donations if we can find them. I tried to get Mazda to support this every year I worked at a Mazda dealership and once they allowed me to use a Mazdaspeed 3 that was already lettered for a Discovery Channel thing they did. The rest of the years it was Scarboro Mazda aka my demo were the vehicles I used to pace the field, and one of last Josh allowed me to use his RX8! If someone finds a company to match the money raised I would suggest allowing them to place a windshield banner on each car so they can get some PR by the way of pics etc for their own use. We also dont need to limit this to one company to sponsor the event....................... The other thing we can do is split the field as we have done in the past with a faster/slower group if we get more vehicles. I think BEMC will allow us more time if we have more cars!

The first time you take on Mosport is something you will keep with you long after you change into clean underwear!

Just so we're clear on what to expect here: should a stock RX-8, under a reasonable degree of standard maintenance, be okay for this sort of activity? (My thinking is, an event that "doesn't require" a helmet, presumably wouldn't be putting one's vehicle under severe duress. On the other hand, I've not once driven on a track, so my thinking has no merit!)

I will leave Mazda Canada out of this then. I don't have much contacts with the Rx7 people though.
NEO can you help out and post a link their to here? You'll have to be the RX7 liaison and the same rules apply to them. It's best if people from the rx7 forum who don't have an account here get one and post directly in this thread instead of having two separate threads and two separate lists to maintain.
