yup, the gas cap issue has happened to me twice. Im waiting for the new cap to come in (its taken 2 weeks already). Dont worry about it. Luckily the service dept. is very kind about CEL and such, they have never charged me for any of it.

I had to bring in four times for the CEL, first they tell me I didn't tighten up the cap (BS). Second time they have to repalce the evaporate pump, third time the found the cap is faulty and I just go back to get the new cap. I am very skeptic about what their finding but as long as they fix the right thing, then I am fine except I have to go the dealer 4 times in the last month. I had my new cap and usually the CEL goes on half way down the tank..will know what happen soon.

I had a bad gas cap too, but thought that was because the guy pumping gas ( No self serve in NJ) didn't put it on tight. I would reset the CEL and it would come back in a day. Since a new cap was cheap I got a new one, no more CEL. I also could feel how much " tighter " the new one was.

glad I don't live in some state that wont let me pump my own gas. I can only imagine the horror stories from some slack-jawed piece of crap pumping gas into my car and somehow ******* it up. (scratching paint/spilling gas/etc)

Note to self: never move to a state that prohibits a person from filling up their own tank.

On a serious note: there has been one time I got a CEL from not tightening the gas cap, freaked me out b/c it seemed so random.

That would be New Jersey & Oregon, people in the other 48 states are smarter than us I guess.
