Thumbs up Clear Lenses and Shiny Tips

After driving the 8 through the winter (with the exception of 2 days when the snow was deeper than my courage) I ended up with scratched rear light lenses (no more squeegy cleans for those ), rather dull front light lenses and an incredible amount of black, burned on crud on the exhaust tips.

Now that we have had a couple of decent days in which to enjoy the sunshine, I have had the pleasure of trying out two products located in the Show and Shine forum and bought at Canadian Tire.

Meguiars PlastX Plastic Polish - I now have clear shiny lenses again - although the rears still need a little bit more work. This is a pretty finicky product. It says work on a small area at a time and they're not kidding. It also needs quite a number of "goes". The result, for the fronts certainly, is pretty much as new (or at least as new as my memory can handle since last summer!).

NevrDull Metal Polish - I now have shiny tips - inside and out - again . Last summer, I could achieve this by simply wiping with a rag after washing the car. Since I am less inclined to do this :o immediately after driving through our local touchless wash in the freezing cold, the tips became totally encrusted with the black crud. 2 weeks ago I decided to deal with it. Washing - no good, pressure washer - no good, bug and tar remover - no good - even polishing compound wouldn't move the stuff. NevrDull to the rescue. If you haven't used it, the active polishing ingredient is impregnated into cotton wadding. Tear off some, wipe on and buff off to a shine. The black crud is simply dissolved by it and the tips are polished by it. Amazing

Happy detailing folks

I use a product called MAAS for the tips. I went to a private school where we participated in cadets. The best way to get the buttons cleaned was using this. Try it out. Also, if you really wanna try something and dont have time to run to canadian tire, use toothpaste..... Im serious, in a jam we would use that to polish the buttons, and although it didnt work as well, it gets the job done

Just don't polish your exhaust tips too much. If you do it everytime you wash your car you'll get too much build up and the heat will cause it to turn white. I do mine whenever the soot dosen't pretty much wipe away.

Just wanted to say I bought that neverdul stuff and I suspect I probaly had the worst buildup of oil soot. 23000km and I have literally NEVER cleaned the exhaust tips (i know, bad bad!!)

But now they are nice sparkling chrome.. A must buy for everyone!!!!

Great tip Pete! I'm going to go get some of the "neverdull" right now.

While I do clean the tips fairly regularly, I do have some rust from over the winter using the touchless carwashes also.

Thanks

I tried to keep mine clean during the winter but my tips have what looks to be some rust or corrosion on them. This happened even though I used to wipe them with a rag everytime I came home to keep the salt and moisture off. I think I'm going to bring my car to the dealer to show them, not sure if it can be replace under warranty but it's only 7 months old, shouldn't be like this already.

Neverdull, its great, mine were all black and rusty, removed it right off, and mine were really bad.

Yea ... I heard that the Americans were getting it from Walmart and I've been bugging them to get it (they "NEVR" heard of it). Then one day while at Canadian Tire, I saw it by the car washing supplies. REALLY cheap too! About 8 bones.

Which one do you use, the Neverdull in the bigger blue tin, or the EagleOne Neverdull, I think that one is a paste/cream.

Thumbs up

I agree guys. This stuff is great. It's the one in the blue tin.

I had some black soot buildup (which easily wipes away) but also had some rust due to car washes over the winter I guess. I used a little elbow-grease and a small piece of the neverdull for each tip and good as new. All the soot and rust is gone!

Best $10 I ever spent at Canadian Tire.

That stuff is good, but I had/use some good ol' Turtle wax polishing compound (green/white container). It's a paste. Don't get the "Rubbing compound" in the red container as it's for body.

Smile What a product

That stuff (blue tin) is truly amazing..a bit of rubbing, then a quick polish, just as it says and the exhaust finishers are mint! Has anyone ventured to try it on their rims?
Thanks again for a great lead!

I would say using it on your rims would be a very bad idea.
Your rims are clearcoated. They are not bare metal like your exhaust finishers.

You should treat your clearcoated rims just like you do your paint. Clean with a proper cleaner and wax them semi-regularily.

Very good advice. Fortunately, I did not try it. Cleaned with Meguires Paint Cleaner and waxed [well, Eagle 1 Spray Wax]. Thanks.
