Now that's more like it 13, I believe we'll have to close this out at 14 or 15. That's if everyone shows and as shannonville restrict us to 12 cars on the track at any given time. Your thoughts?

^ At this point I'd rather leave the spot open for the rotary boys.
As long as your brakes are in good working order no prob. I'll be posting a Do's and Don'ts Track Manual before the event still working on it. It will be in PDF format. My friend Nigel may come out to help as he used to be a vintage race driver on the circuit. And Al may show up as well all pending.

^ of course man...and if you get bored could help marshal

Remember if anyone is bringing a friend to ride around the track in their car, they must also sign the waiver and get a wrist band.

Nigel said he's in to help out. Does Al have a ChatterBox Driver to Passenger Intercom and if so would he lend it to us for the day to help with the real newbies.

Side Note for Mike.

Thank you for organizing it!

Unfortunately I cant go on workdays (Fridya) since I am still under probation fck....After Sept though, I can definitely take more vacation and sick days for track day Friday lol

I am going to service and change my brake pads to Hawk HPS since the OEM ones only got 3mm left after all the track adventure...

I am aiming for those Touge dates in July...I need to finish burning up the R1s before it expires haha...

Yep, one more rotary and I'll close it out at 15
If all 15 show price will be $53 and they better or it's flogging time.
Also here the first draft track do's & don't especially for the first timer. Critiques welcome.
Only thing I personally wish to do is allow the first timer out with a more experience co-driver for the first few laps. Who ever will to help out with this is in as we have 4 that have NEVER been on a track.

Everyone involved in the event please have a look, thoughts and criticisms welcome, as this is democracy. Floggings are tax free.

P.S. anyone coming have/or can borrow a Chatterbox or similar device for new guys/co-drivers.

lol ok I'll intervene so you aren't left hanging.

Rick; I'm open to the idea of having someone ride shotgun with me for a few laps to help me familiarize with everything.

also question: do you guys do the double clutch/heel toe thing when downshifting on the track? I never learned how to do it :S !

heel-toe downshifting is probably done by most people if not everyone, as for double clutch, I'm not sure as to whether half of us are even capable of doing that...

heel toe thing when downshifting takes a lot of practice, I try to double clutch downshifting to 2nd as my 2nd is flaky under hard driving.

For first timers I believe line of sight (looking where your going), hand position on the steering wheel and just being aware of what's around you on the track is more important for the first time out. Heel to toe and double clutch is just practice, practice. At first don't try to make it more complicated than it is, concentrate on the apexes of the corners and be aware of the other cars around you on the track.... check your mirrors constantly.
If you try to do too many thing your not good at, at once, you will **** up! IMHO

Loss of concentration is most drivers downfall, so be awake & aware, no partying the night before because you have the day off.

I know, I know, no chatter in here. But I think I may come to watch and help out since it looks like you can get a full grid of rotaries.

However, if you are still a spot short closer to the date, and you don't mind having a subie along for the night, I think I'll lap too.

I'll keep an eye on this thread to see how it fills up.

Always need help especially with 4 newbies to any track, were pretty well filled with 14. I guess chatter is ok now. For an X-8er your welcome to take the last spot and show up all the rotaries with some real torque. I think 15 is a good limit. And hopefully enough cars want to do 3 hours which gets us off the track at nine instead of eight. I don't mind helping out by this date I'll have been to 3 ADS's. (Best mod money can buy, modify the the organics first not the machine.)

Nate, we'll need all the help we can get, do you know anyone with a couple of chatterboxes.

Fabi Turn by Turn

For who ever never been to Fabi courtesy of http://www.saabclub.ca/

Fabi
Short technical track designed for schools. One small building. Length is 2.23 kms (1.39 miles). Designed by Richard Spenard. Renumbered by Blake to correspond with marshal/flagger conventions and new Fabi colour map.

1. A small sweeper right at the east end of the drag strip, can be taken at fairly high speed. Hard braking from straight-away. Down shift early, get it done early. Apex turtles are quite tall - don't ride up on them else you'll look like Peter Hanson showing off the underbelly of your car. 3rd gear.

2. This is a 45° tap and go, for mortals; for the brazen, just lift. 3rd gear.

3. A curved approach. Get over to left of track. Get braking and down-shift done early. If it's too technical it's probably because you're accelerating too much between 2 and 3. Hard cornering, full lock. Maybe be slowest corner (next to hairpin onto the straight). Look through apex into exit and 4. Drift over to left at exit. It's rough track onto dirt without turtles so not too far. Don't unwind until past exit. 2nd gear.

5. Sweeper left. Full throttle all the way through. Quickly after exit of 5 get to right side of track then turn-in quickly to 6. Long apex zone. Unwind in straight. Up-shift to 3rd gear near apex.
There's a general passing zone between 5 and 6.

6. Arguably a double apex. Some call this Fabi's carousel. Hard brake, smooth transition to throttle at turn-in for 6a. Make turn-in smooth to first apex. Freeze steering input. Car will drift out between apices - don't fight it. Then again, there are marbles and dirt at outer edge. Lift-throttle-oversteer works well between a and b to point car into exit and tiny straight after 6b. Once straight, add a bit more throttle. 3rd gear. This is something of a throw-away corner as the setup for 7 is very important...

7. Another fairly hard turn here. Increasing radius. Apex is later than it looks. Earlier? Exit is a little uneven, don't get too close too it. Down the chute! 3rd gear.

8. There are a couple of lines through here. There's a little straight after the exit. The popular one at medium speed is to enter straight after corner parallel to road at extreme right edge, i.e. an incredibly late apex. So stay a bit wide. Improves exit and entrance into next corner. Beginning with this corner through 10, this feels like a combination. Give good throttle through exit. 3rd or 2nd gear. The aggressive style is to attack the apex earlier and let the car drift wide or left but then quickly pull it in.

9. Brake in straight line into turn-in. Optionally, down-shift to 2 before turn-in. Another fairly sharp turn-in. Watch for black marks. Change in pavement at apex. Car wants to slip to right edge - a lot of drivers pull it in to the left. Quick little throttle here. On exit, straight-line to turn-in of 10. If you didn't down-shift before 9, get it down now - more technical though.

10. Hairpin right onto straight. Maybe be slowest corner (next to 3). Requires great discipline, great patience. Slow in... Very demanding turn-in - may require hand repositioning (but try to avoid that). Change in pavement at apex. Late apex is better than early. 2nd gear, Up-shift twice down main straight. Race cars do this in 1st gear.
General passing zone between 10 and 1. This straight is parallel to the 401, just to the north. Good time to check the gauges.
