hey do any of you guys wear a helmet? I'm thinking of investing in one...

Thanks, I hope I did not miss anything. If so we'll have a driver's meeting/money/waivers/bracklets etc.etc, so everyone arrive at least an half an hour early. I be there around 3:30-4 with Mike, Nigel and anyone else who wishes to cruise along early.
P.S. With sure a good turn-out! How many are into booking a extra hour, so we get off the track at nine instead of eight.

Just a word of advise about helmets. Dont waste your money on a "M" helemt those are for motorcycles. They are much heavier than a "SA" helmet, and in a crash can cause neck injuries in a car. They are also designed to protect you from a major impact like hitting your head on a tree, curb, pavement etc. The SA is designed to protect your head from the smaller impacts like bouncing off the interior panels of your car, air bags and they are nomex lined to protect against fire. The "M" helmet will melt to your head in the instance of fire. If you are going to do track events, protecting your lid with the right hat is a good idea.

Soo there are Snell approved helmets - in this case the SA2005 would fall under - and these are regarded as the standard for auto racing? Whereas a helmet that doesn't have Snell approval would be regarded as inferior?
The reason I ask is my dad mentioned to his mechanic friend that I was looking into getting a helmet and he ended up selling my dad a DOT approved Gmax helmet - so this helmet would not really be suitable for auto racing then right? I want to make sure I buy a helmet I can use long term and not have to find out that this Gmax helmet is no good at another track.

IIRC snell is a categorization method utilizing a set of standards similar but different from DOT. (Supposedly snell has higher standards)
Off the top of my head, I think there's 3 types: SA (Automotive racing), M (motorcycles), K (karts). The numbers after the letters represent the year.
Different construction between the different types (e.g. SA and M helmets weigh different, and the field of vision is also different.)
I don't know if there's a new SA standard, the last one I've seen is SA 2005.

anyone meeting in the orangeville or newmarket area to go, would like to roll with some other 8's so i dont get lost. I usually use a compass instead of gps so i do get lost, but when your on a time limit to get somewhere its not ideal

Sorry I have not posted, away with wife and another couple at a resort for some golf, food and booze.
As to the meeting up, Mazda_RX804 and I are meeting at my work around 2, so I can get there early to arrange everything. Anyone is welcome to join us if they want to head up early. I would like everyone there around 5 to pay-up, sign waivers and to have a driver's meeting as we have the track at 5:30.
Again how many of us are into going for a extra hour, as two is not very much with the number of cars we have.
Please pm me in the next week if your interested in more time and to assure me your coming.
