Code Reader Help

Mike here is the link to the reset:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/ecu-clear-reset-27548/
MazdaManiac:
There are two reset procedures, one for the NVRAM and the other for the KAM. Neither will erase your radio presets and such like the method SpooledUp7 posted:
1) With the key in the off position, press and hold the odometer reset button and turn the key to on;
Continue to hold the odo button until the odometer reads "TEST" and then release.
2) Turn the key to off and repeat step one.
This will reset the entire PCM except the KAM which contains the sensor profiles amongst other things. You can reset it with the familiar procedure:
1) Turn the key to on
2) Depress the brake pedal rapidly 20 times in a row until the oil pressure gauge sweeps to halfway and back again
I'm bored at work can ya tell

Yeah, I tried both of those, it still didn't seem to work. Then again, I haven't driven anywhere yet.

Ah cool!!

Personally, I would just hope it's battery, since cheaper and a quick swap. It's never good when something goes wrong of course, but it's a car and a sports car at that, and if it's just those things, then ya better than other more expensive things to go wrong. And the things mentioned are all diy so saves the pockets. Everyone seems to change coils around the same km that you have anyhow. It sucks waiting doesn't it. Drove me nutz for 6 days.

What you mean it didn't work? It didn't clear the CEL? When you did it, could you go thru all the options that gets displayed on your dash where your km normally display? It's actually a neat thing, but doesn't give you CEL readings. My bro's PT goes the same thing, but gives the error code and then you just look it up on the net. Kinda silly the 8 doesn't if you ask me.

I did all those things and it didn't clear my CEL, either. I drove it for a good 3 days after, too, to see if it would go away on its own. No dice.

If it comes down to that I will helpin ya out. I haven't done plugs yet, which rotarygreg along with others, were willing to help out. They look simple enough, it's just getting to them. Wires, unplug, plug new ones back in.
When was the last time you changed your plugs and wires btw?

Do it yourself. That's what this forum is partially about. We help each other out. Coils are easy did mine last week and posted pics how to do it in my thread

Thanks for offering to help!! Wow. I really appreciate the offer. I've owned the car since May this year and I've never changed anything with the ignition. I don't think the previous owner did either because it wouldnt have been time to do so when they owned it. Always happens like that though eh? You buy a car from someone and it cakes on ya. I have faith in my car though. Deep, deep faith.
If you don't know, just do all the above your car will thank you for it, and will drive that much better. Is there any warranty left on it? Some of this stuff maybe covered under warranty. If it's under 80,000km and 3 years (I believe is the minimum warranty) then start researching!!
See what they say and go from there.

Did you try resetting it by disconnecting the battery and then see if it came on? Bad gas can set it off.
No worries man! I've been helped out enough by a bunch of the boyz on this site and return the favour when I can.

Depends if that CAT is gone as mine was that will be covered up to 8 years or 80,000 miles (128,???km). The other stuff won't be I tried very hard especially on the coils. Depends...are you going with the BHR or OEM?

Anyway, it's off now, and hopefully won't return anytime soon.

That's the only thing I didn't do. Wasn't sure if it would wipe out on the computer what triggered the CEL in the first place, and I wanted to know for sure, so I left it and took the car in. And I was pretty sure it wasn't bad gas cause I filled up with the 93 octane that Sunoco has right before the light came on.
Anyway, it's off now, and hopefully won't return anytime soon.
