Coolant Light on

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...engine+coolant

Anyone else experience this? I have this problem now. Looks like time for a new coolant reservoir tank.

High RPM ( > 6K rpm) for more than say 20 - 30 seconds.. the coolant light comes on. I back off throttle, coolant light goes off.

- Temp gauge on dashboard does not move to indicate it's overheating.
- Coolant levels checked and are full.

join the club.

i have the same problem, its your sensor in the overflow tank. instead of buying a new one just invest i a water temp gauge, cuz the 2 to 3 hundred bucks you'll pay for the overflow tank is just as much as a gauge setup.

I only get that at the track in the turns and then the next turn it goes off. I have figured mine is just swishing around so don't care...yet.

I'm under new car warranty still, so I have the option of getting it replaced for free at the moment.
Currently at 41,300 km. 2007 model.

thats cool get it replaced. but also look into that gauge setup. its still good to know how hot your 8 running. by the time the stock temp gauge moves the 8 is already at 220º and is at critical mass. 230º and your 8 is dead. its the best investment you can make. theres a theard by Jedi54 wit a really good and inexpensive gauge setup.

I have the scangauge II. Can I just get by and monitor water temperatures?
Is that 220 - 230 deg in Farenheit or Celcius?

I just had this happen to my 07. (57 000Kms) Will be fixed under warranty tomorrow. Seemed to come on after I ran the car up to 8K or so and then it would go off.

Yep, back from Scarboro Mazda. The diagnosis is that there is a little floating ball thing inside the reservoir. Apparently, it's "caked" with a film and it's disrupting the sensors... they're going to replace the ball thingy (part ordered)....

So no biggie...

I have the same sensor issue right now and have had it for quite a while. I believe I was quoted 200+ to fix as they have to replace the entire tank. I'm not on warranty. I'll have to tell them about your fix...Scarboro's where I go for servicing.

UPDATE: New coolant tank installed

Finally installed. The part was backordered from Japan. Apparently, there has been a massive in flood of these problems appearing recently. Many were replaced and the tanks became in shortage! I waited over 3 weeks for the part to come.

Drove around at 6500 - 8000rpm in city roads, 2nd gear... no light.

Issue resolved.

Good to know I'm not the only one that light is bugging the crap out of. Just had mine topped off at the dealership but I'm pretty sure they didn't use the good stuff, time for a new dealership after the idiots at that one. Mine is under extended warranty, so I'll have to see about the "ball thingy" and if the tank needs replacing.
