Excuse me? Watch yourself, son. I really want one, but its still pretty expensive thou. In terms of bang for your buck, its an amazing tool thou. But I do want a catback exhaust even if I only gain two hp from it. The 8 is too quiet, and I dont want it to be loud just in the front due to the intake. Plus I need to change my plugs and sparks and decided to go with teh Mazsport Ignition Solution. So ya, I'll see what my budget is like. Maybe I'll forgo the Mazdaspeed catback and Strut and get the Cobb and the RP Supercat. Run it rich and shoot flames out the back, but not near wcs though. Does anyone wanna watch 21 that day?

 

Well if you have the Cobb it won't run rich anymore so no flames. You may want to consider a resonated midpipe instead of the supercat. I already spoke to Rotary Performance on the phone about the Cobb tuning and he agreed that the leaner fuel will probably just kill the high flow cat anyway. I ordered the midpipe instead.

Also, supercat or midpipe will make your exhaust a bit louder anyway. That my be enough for you.

Do you know if Mazsport is caught up on shipping those ignition upgrades yet? Last I read, people were waiting quite a while.

 

They still may be, I'm gonna check with them this Friday on next week Monday. I called dibs on one that being sold, still brand new, just don't have to wait for it. Are you thinking of the Mazsport? I ask since your car is pretty new, doubt your in need of new coils, plugs or wires. What midpipe are you getting? I looked at the Rotary Performance one, but the Mazsport double resonated one is a little more appealing. The other reason I'm against going no cat is the smell, I actually use this car when taking the ladies out, and I don't want them reaking of fuel lol.

 

Well with the leaner calibration isn't shouldn't smell so much. Definitely not like an rx7.

I've been considering the Mazsport ignition. I'm not sure I want to spend the money. Even the new cars seem to have pretty bad coils. When I dyno'd my car a little while ago the line was getting a little jumpy up top. Supposedly a sign of poor coils. It's a good supporting mod anyway for going turbo.

Oh, and yes I ordered the RP midpipe. The Mazsport is just too expensive. Kind of rediculous for a midpipe. I asked RP about adding a second resonator. Apparently they tried in the past but found the second resonator to be too close to a crossmember and it would sometimes rattle.

I 99% sure I'm buying a RP mid next week. Gotta wait to see wot the bling situation is like.

I have no plans to do any additional tuning with the AP. MM ships it with 3 stages of maps in different trims. At this point the only reason to get a custom tune would be to squeeze out the last couple hp. Not economical in my view.

 

I just ordered a set of plugs from NGK UPS Priority for 101.91 usd
Now that doesn't include brokerage fees but if it's under 60 cdn then it's still cheaper then any place I've priced!

Been using Cobb AP on my other car in stage II tune. The novelty has worn off. Also seeing gains of the AP for the rx-8 is underwhelming compared to my other car. But it does log data and such. Enjoy.
Does D&B still have Mech Warrior?

 

I can't remember if it has Mech Warrior ... <shrug>

 

I have nothing to report. It's kind of a pain finding the right map to use. Each one has a 2% difference in fuel trim so depending on how much the PCM is correcting, you're supposed to pick the appropriate map so it's clsoer to perfect. Easier said than done. I swear the PCM is screwing with me and making up values. It's just not consistent.

If that Cobb is worth it, if any of you are interested we can split the cost, you can keep it at your place, just let me use it whenever i need. Or i wouldnt mind paying one of you to load the map onto my PCM. Either way im all ears. Im curious to see what this bad boy can actually do.

I am pretty tied up Saturday but I will try and make it out. I have to be in for service in the morning, and in the evening I am going to David Copperfield. I'll try to come out. You can all see my 2nd catless RP midpipe (damn thing can't keep a cat in it).
