For my 24K service, I brought my car to Morrey Mazda in North Vancouver. (I usually go to Signature... But after they charged me for rotating my tires and didn't actually do it, I thought I'd give my money to some other place.)
Anyways, that service was on March 11. Last night (April 27), I checked my oil for the first time after the service. (Yes... I know I should be checking more often.......) When I opened my hood, I freaked out 'cause the engine cover was missing!!
I phoned Morrey Mazda this morning and the service rep went to talk to the mechanic... And apparently, they were going to call me to come get it, but they forgot!! WTF??
How pissed off should I be when I get it back from them tomorrow morning?
I'd ask them to personally hand deliver it to me... But I'm going on the Vancouver Annual Drive tomorrow and I thought I should have it before then...

I agree, there is nothin wrong with driving with it off. Pick it up the next time you're there.
If I've learned one thing about dealers, it's that anytime you pick your car up, you need to do a walk around. I've picked up cars whose dipsticks were not installed properly, oil caps loose, windsheild wiper blades missing, stupid high air pressure in the tires, etc etc. It's unfortunate, but you really have to keep a eye on their work. It's always easier to deal with if you catch it before you leave.

Thanks for your responses, guys.
But it just sounds ridiculous... I mean... After we bring in our car for a checkup, we have to do our own checkup to make sure everything's proper? I mean... Should I check if they put the brake pads on or something too? Or check every nut holding my wheel in? I'm just annoyed! I mean... What if it was someone who didn't know about their car? They might've lost their engine cover forever!

Speak to the service manager, and calmly explain the situation, and then inquire as to how something simple like forgetting to reinstall the engine cover could A) have been missed by such a reputable dealership;l and B) why did they wait so long to notify you of the mistake, if they had indeed realized that they had forgotten to reinstall the cover?
Make them accountable for their mistakes. Unless you're going to look over every little detail of their work (which, if you think about it, is insulting to the technician who did the work) you're going to have to place some faith in the dealership. If they don't do the work, or they make a mistake, make them accountable for it and if you want to continue doing business with them, ask them what will they do to make good on their error to keep your business.
For crying out loud - it's an engine cover. Any Mazda technician should know to replace it. VWs have engine covers, and you don't see a stack of them outside the service department of every VW dealership in the Lower Mainland.
