Here in Ottawa I the quote I got included, $105 for paint, $400 freight, $530 PDI, $100 A/C, $75 Gas (he said he was guessing on that one), $249 adm.

I am sure they will try and tack a security deposit for leasing as well, they will try but won't succeed. The only way they will get me to pay $930 frt/pdi +$249 adm is if they give me the base rate (-2.7% from ALR, same for AFR).

So far the demand in Ottawa doesn't seem to be very high. Which means it should be easier to negotiate. They will still demand and likely get MSRP but there will be room to maneuver with the options and fees.

Yes, my dealer quoted exactly $1400 when everything you mentioned above was added in. I think the floating value is probably the admin charge: all the other charges will be fixed for all dealers across Ontario, give or take $20 or so.

Thus you see the Oakville guy at $950 for FRT + PDI, and the Ottawa guy at $930 for freight and PDI. Perhaps the Oakville guy was just rounding up for his estimate? But anyway, the crappy thing is that Mazda charges the extra 105 for metallic paint, and the STUPID "ADMIN" charge...

The quote above was from Bank street Mazda, but the rep was your typical sl**ze ball. Knew nothing about the car and didn't wan't to know about it until it was on the floor (straight from the horse's mouth folks). His comment about the LSD on the GS MT was "o-o-o-o-o-o LSD", as if it wasn't important on a car with 250 hp RWD (I just can't believe that the GS doesn't have the option of TCS).

So I just got back from Performance Mazda (now in Orleans). It was worse. The reps didn't know squat about the RX-8, tried to convince me that none of the Canadian Mazda Dealers can pre order, that the GS only comes with 210 hp and that all the dealers will only get 3 vehicules shipped to them by Mazda (they won't get any choice in what they get). He didn't even have the spec sheet, just the price sheet. No colours nada! I told him to go to Mazda Canada web site and learn about the product he is suppose to be trying to sell to me. Man I am in the wrong business. If I was this ignorant about the products that I sell, I would be out of business within a few months.

I understand that they can't quote stuff they find on the forums and that Mazda Canada is very stingy with the information that they pass out. But these guys should know about what has been officially released like spec sheet, colours etc. I highly doubt that I will be buying from either of them, probably will go to your neck of the woods (Montreal is closer but I believe that they will be less likely to deal simply because Mazda does very well in Montreal).

I can't say that any of the dealerships I've talked to have had a very good technical knowledge at this point, unfortunate but they truly don't care until they are on the floor. Anybody who want's to pre-order will do so with or without help, as they know about the car already.

But as dealers go, Bank street left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. Performace in Orleans was much better, they still didn't have a clue on the technical side, but at least they were friendly and were willing to take my money for a pre-order, far better than Bank. Try finding the sales manager, they are always more knowledgable than the average numpty on the floor.

N.B: I don't beleive that all salesmen are bad, just alot that I've had the misfortune of dealing with.

Yes one of them made me feel like I needed to take a shower afterwards. There was another one who was OK but very green, the problem with dealing with a newbie is that they are forever running back to the sales manager for approval on every little detail. The sales manager rarely deals with the general public unless forced to do it and I understand that. They have usually get in the picture after a sales is made, then s/he will try and upsell you on the warranty upgrades and xtra's. Over at the Acura dealership, I had no problem with getting to deal with the assistant manager. They don't need to get any approval to conclude a sale. Much better, although do get me started with the management at Camco.

I agree not all salesman are bad, heck in a sense I am a salesman but there are simply too many of them that just don't give a ****. They are just there for the paycheque. Might as well order from the web.

What is the "Admin Fee"? Beer $$?? My dealer's admin fee is $175 but I've seen some as low as $125.

Well the fact that 6 sales people know nothing about it, apparently Performance Mazda hasn't even distributed the specs sheet to their sales reps and it's been out for nearly 2 weeks, they look at me like I'm demented when I actually ask about placing an order but the biggest tell tale sign is...

drum roll please

they aren't pressuring me with lines like you'll need to put $X deposit to pre-order today if you want it for this year, there is only Y coming to Canada this year. I got that a lot when asking about the Mazda 6GTv6 MT, the TSX and the Accord 6spd. The reps didn't know squat about those cars either but the money down spiel was real popular.

I have yet to order, the next 2 weeks will tell if I go for the GS or the GT (if I land a contract that I'm working on, it's the GT). I normally don't go for leather seats but only the GT offers Traction Control. Still debating the colour (I would love to see the dark grey but the black and tan leather is disguting, trying to see if I can have it switched to all black, if the winning blue is anything close to the Mutant blue then it is winner for me). Might go for the moonroof.

More or less, since they can't sell for more then MSRP, it is their way of padding the price on popular cars. I have never paid it. Some try to say it is for the cost of the paperwork, preping the car etc. BS. That has already been factored into the price, specially at MSRP. Ditto for the security deposit, either I qualify for the lease/loan or I don't, pure BS. If you only knew the real story it would make you cry.
