Diamond Clear Coat...
Last time I met up with Inconsequential and Wakeech we discussed the Diamond Coat you can order on your cars in Canada. Here in the US we don't get that option and I wanted to get more information about it. I'm trying to decide if I will have it done the next time I am up in BC. If anyone has any info about it I would greatly appreciate it.

AFAIK - it's just a dealer rip-off for huge profit from suckers/buyers. Basically, you pay a few hundred dollars, and they get the lot boy to spend 1/2 hour very sparingly wiping on $5 worth of polymer protectant that is similar to NuFinish etc. It's supposedly guaranteed, but for the guarantee to be valid you have to come in once a year to have it updated (re-applied), the update/reapplication for which, of course, they charge you.
Just use a good cleaner and wax regularly yourself, and you'll be FAR better off. (NuFinish, Meguiars, etc. etc.)
Regards,
Gordon

A lot of car buying guides mention these dealer add-ons. For example, at www.edmunds.com , their buying guides discuss this in a section called Blinded by Chrome: High Priced Dealer Add-ons.
Here's the section from that article that mentions paint protection:
Most all the buying guides discuss these add-ons the same way - do not buy them! I know, caveat emptor - now you know for next time, anyway! ![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Here's the section from that article that mentions paint protection:
A short walk from our offices in Santa Monica is a dealership that sells cars liberally festooned with an assortment of aftermarket equipment (see accompanying photograph). Here, the dealer has taken the $32,125 sticker price for a top-of-the-line import wagon and inflated this price by $2,675 by adding various items. When we looked at the list, which includes a wood package for $695, CD changer for $795, custom matz (sic) for $295, window tint for $395 and paint protect (sic) for $495, only the CD changer seemed to have real value. And even that comes at a high price.
We called a local glass shop and found that it would cost about $145 to tint the back windows of a station wagon. We then phoned a detail shop and told them we wanted a reapplication of the paint protection that the dealer put on our car when we bought it new. "You're talking about wax, basically," they told us. "That's all they do is wax your car." We expressed shock that someone could charge $495 for a wax job. "A lady was in here last week asking about the same thing," our detailer told us. "It's pretty sad that they do that."

I have neglected that car for the last two years as far as waxing/polishing. I've only put on the stuff on the bottle they gave me in the first two years. haven't used it since.
But everytime I wash it, it is still shiny unlike my neighbors car (same but 99)
I would buy it again if I buy another red or black car.
my 2 cents.... :D
