Dodo23’s Silver RX8

Hey guys, since it is so quiet here, I thought I’d put my car thread up here. I got her last year. It wasn’t running, Dannobre and I towed it home. With his advice I gave it the atf treatment for about a week.
It came with one key that wasn’t registered with the immobilizer so it would even turn in the ignition. I drained the gas tank and put some fresh gas in it and a battery. I had it towed to a local dealership to get keys made, they tried to fire it up and I got a phone call that it was blowing tons of smoke and I was jumping up and down screaming “it runs!!!! It runs”. They told me the engine was likely toast and probably thought that I was crazy!!!! 😛
I picked it up and fired it up in their lot and burnt the atf up and I t stopped smoking and I drove it home. It had a bunch of codes, which is wouldn’t let cruise control to work. The ecu was bad!!!! I picked upa used ecu with the same series code and had the dealer program it and all was well.
A few days later the eps would stop working intermittently, and a few days later the steering rack locked up and would not move at all. So I parked it!
While it was parked, I swapped the tranny, diff and rear subframe to S2. Recently I have replaced the steering rack.

Getting brake calipers ready for painting

A random shot of engine bay

Garage shot

Bloody stuck steering column replaced

She sat here for 8 years before I bought her

Sitting in an underground parkade for eight years

Didn’t run when I bought it

Body was near mint

Engine mounts filled with 85A polyurethane

I have also put in racing thermostat and all coolant hoses have been changed. The car has been decatted too. The factory exhaust was thrown out and Now it has Manzo exhaust that I got from Meathead in exchange of the AP exhaust from my S2.

New 2022 pics

Now the polyurethane mounts are in and the tranny shifts smoothly. Or so I thought! It was still grinding, after re aligning the ppf 6-7 times I found out that probably because of the polyurethane mounts the factory spec didn’t apply, I visually aligned it with the tranny. Now it doesn’t grind. Did the same with my R3.

First proper wash and polish after a decade!

I put the air pump back in, it was throwing cel.

It's great to have a place to follow the builds! The Silver 04 is so clean, with S2 diff and few other parts it will really be a nice drive

I would not have bought it if I were not Crazy!!!

I already owned 3 8s at that point. I was actually coming back from a hunting trip with my son when the guy finally called me back and I went straight to see the car and made a deal. Later I found all the maintenance history in the glovebox and the motor had been replaced by the dealer at 7x,xxx km back in 2010. When my son was uninstalling the spark plugs, he reported a broken spark plug. The cat was damaged, so it probably was misfiring.
Hopefully the engine mounts will go in today!

Dan I can’t thank you enough for your help and guidance.

Great find. And it sat in a covered garage away from the harsh elements! Well done in resurrecting her. She will scream once again!

She runs fine now!

Meathead texted me last Friday about a car meet that was happening right across from my place of work, I was pretty busy till 11pm that day but he waited and I met him there. Afterwards we did a couple pulls, it was fun!!!
