Downtown TO Mazda, I cant believe them!

Hey Guys I bought my 06 SE RX-8 from Downtown Mazda and Im about to take it in for its first service and Im really hesitant to bring it to them because they dont seem to know **** about the car. I asked the guy who sold the car to me if they would upgrade my car with the latest ECU reflash and he had no clue what I was talking about, then he told me not to fiddle around with the ECU because its very high-tech, I had to tell him what a Reflash was, this is the same guy that told me never to turn off the traction control for safety reasons!

Anyway then I spoke to service there cause I wanted an oil change and I was describing to him the special coating that all RX-8s get from the factory for break in purposes and he told me he had no clue what the factory did to the engine before it got to the dealer!!!

I just dont trust these morons to touch my car, Ive heard good things about Scarborough Mazda but I live downtown and I dont know how Id get back to my place, is there a shuttle or something???

God I hate morons who sell and service stuff they know nothing about!!!

hey bud,

My rx8 is due for servicing soon aswell. I have heard from my local dealership that the techies at Ontario Mazda (Dixie/401) are good. One of the techie went for an rx8 training and knows the car in and out. My local dealership (ErinMills Mazda) is quite good aswell and know a good bit abt the rx8. If scarborough is too far, these 2 are in mississauga.. maybe closer for you.

Hope my 2 cents help.

Arrow Average.....

I think you are expecting a little too much of your dealer.

The techs know what they "need to know".....I doubt any of them would even know about the internal treatment the factory does - they don't need that information to do their job.

The service writer knows less than they do - they know an average amount about average cars, so "Don't turn off the trac control" and "don't mess around with that there ECU thingy" are perfectly reasonable warnings to their average customer.

Just don't get them out of their comfort zone, speak slowly and keep your requests simple, they aren't morons, they CAN do what needs doing, given encouragement, and donuts.

Wow...first service already? How many kms on the clock for you?

I bought the other SE they had, and I picked mine up a good month before you - I think we talked before

You are right to be skeptical about them though, that's why I resurrected the "Good dealer in the GTA" thread a while back. You might want to take a look at that thread, search my previous posts if you have trouble finding it.

I haven't had my first service yet, still under 4k, but I'm thinking about an oil change.
Downtown Mazda is the closest to me, so would be real handy, but I've been leaning towards Scarborough Mazda lately (84Racing knows them well ha ha), plus I work near Don Mills and Eglinton so it's not that far.

Let me know what you decide as I'll be following close behind if you give the green light.

I agree that the comment abou turning off the traction control just to be safe is smart advise for the average consumer, but this guy also told me not to touch the cancel button on the cruise because he wasnt sure what it did, I just started laughing and explained to him how cruise control worked, trust me the guy is slower than slow.

Anyway I was thinking about Richmond Hill Mazda but Im not how Id get back to midtown TO from there, Ill call them and find out if they have a good shuttle service.

So some people seem to think that its too much to ask that the mechanics at Mazda have some sort of clue about our cars, I mean if you want to revive the rotary shouldnt you have a strong service department ready to answer anybody's questions, not to mention at least one sales member that knows a great deal as well, I mean were not talking about a 4banger automatic mazda3 gs, sorry its just frustrating, I had to vent.

I think the part thats most frustrating is dealing with the moron Sales guy that tells me I dont know what Im talking about when he doesnt even know how cruise works, what the traction control button does and probably how to tie his shoes in the morning.

First Service? I just had my second.
14 500 KM since May 26. I bought and service my car at Dave Wood Mazda in NEwmarket adn have found the service staff quite knowledgable. I just had an oil change, Flash Upgrade, snow tire fitting and transmission oil check in less than 2 hours on Monday morning.
Total cost $30 and change. Turns out the LM-22 17" Bridgestone Blizzaks from my Maxima will fit just fine.

No I didn't get the snows installed; I was just checking to see if the snows would fit. I figured I'd need a few months and a second job if I needed to get 18" snows and rims.
