Driver's floor mat bracket???

Hey guys.. I have a question for you. Did all your Canadian cars come with the bracket to hold the drivers floor mat in place? I've asked at my dealership twice now and they said that its probably an aftermarket part. One of their mechanics actually looked at some of the cars still on the lot and claimed that none of them had them (he looked through the window without looking into the car). I don't really buy this because why would the mats come standard but that braket to hold them in place cost extra?

This is really starting to irritate me.

PS - are the TSB's that are found here on the site fall on our cars too. I know theyre issued by Mazda North America Operations, but the service manager claims that they only cover US RX8s.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Front mat hold down bracket

Some( many) dealers are clueless about such things. I was really annoyed that mine had not been installed and knew it was not an option, based on my Miata experience. Told me it had to be ordered. Uh, no! I maintained. By this time ( one month) the driver's mat had developed a permanent curl..

Guess what, I found it in the rear console along with the three tie down bolts. When I presented it to the Svc. Mgr., he was tres embarrassed, so,
I insisted upon a new driver's mat and got it under warranty.

Canadian dealers don't know jack. I never got the piece when I got my car, but when I asked about it, they said that they are working with Mazda Canada for a solution. Maybe it's just canadians that got stiffed. My drivers mat is looking pretty bad right now and I'll probably have to buy a new one next spring. If any other fellow canadians could get me this piece I would greatly appreciate it.

When I spoke to MazCan when we first got delivery in Canada they claimed that they would give us new floor mats that had a fitting bracket. Ofcourse no one has heard anything since!

I know that SirLeNerd got one from the dealer, free under warranty. So just push the dealer hard on this.

It is standard, guys! .. ..if it isn't lying around somehere in the car, then someone at the dealership, or a test driver has lost, or swiped it.

Its standard and should have been installed as part of the prep for when you bought the car...if it wasn't installed, it should have been in the trunk in a bg with your front plate holder. My dealer forgot to until I reminded them of it. I couldn't find mine so they took on from a car on the lot.

Recent Floormat Attachment peg thread.

Here's what I said: "the peg was provided with your car, and was supposed to be installed by your dealer in the pre-delivery preparation of the car. If you don't have it, it's because your dealer screwed up and took shortcuts on the prep. All you need to do is go back and bitch about the missing peg, and they'll have to find one and install it, no charge."

Every RX-8 is delivered with that peg from Mazda. It's part of the dealer preparation checklist to install it!!! If they give you a hard time - ask them to show your their new car prep checklist for the RX-8... then really give them a hard time about their shoddy, negligent workmanship.

Regards,
Gordon

after seeing a few weeks ago other ppl complaining about this i asked my dealership last weekend. And they did look stumped when i said WTF. So now they are apparently ordering new matts because that's the only way to get the bracket. So ya, it should be there, but it wasn't. I'm positive not many ppl even know about this item.

Thanks alot for all your replies

I didn't push for it that hard because they were really good to me when I asked for the m flash a while back. But since that good visit I've had to visit them twice to rectify a foggy rear tailight problem (they never got back to me when they said they would). Now I have a new tailight assembly on order and when I go in to get it replaced, I will definately be discussing the bracket.

Thanks again.

I have my peg and it wasn't installed, I figured I would do it when I brought the car home, good luck. It's impossible to get any phillips screw driver in the area to actually install it, It looks like it might work with one of those bent ones but I don't intend to buy one for only this, guess I could always return it when I'm done. I think the next time I'm at the dealership I'll ask them to install it.

Interesting thread- didnt know about a mat pin! Looked around in the car and no sign of it so a picture or even a description of where its supposed to go would be great. Also saw that apaul got 3 tie down bolts- I got 1- anyone know how many you're supposed to get? Thanks

Tie down bolts

P. 7-3 of the Manual shows storage for 2, with the jack. Mine were just lying loose. Now clipped in place. You're more than welcome to the extra one, DG1. In the Toronto area? Not sure if another meet is being planned for the Fall.. Saw some indication of activity on the Toronto Owners' thread yesterday.

Will get a photo of the mat peg and post it later today..not sure if it'll be all that visible to be useful, but will try my best.

Thanks apaul- appreciate the offer. Think I'll try to get the dealer to sort things out the next time I'm in. Still good to know what we were supposed to get with the car and how it was supposed to be set up- scares me to have to educate them!!- so a photo would be great . Etobicoke,silver,spoiler,strakes- wife's car. Maybe she'll take me to the meet if it happens!!! Thanks again.

Rex says, "de rien."

I can try another shot with the carpet detached, if you think that would help the dealer. Thought of it, as usual, at 5:00 this am.

So this thing is located just under the driver's seat in the middle of the floor pan? Is there one on the passenger side too (the passenger mat usually gets kicked around more than the one on the drivers side)?!! Thanks for the pics

Not that I know of.. the passenger mat isn't equipped with the eyelet . Seems like a good idea though..wonder if anyone knows if/where it can be done?

Went to dealership today to get pegged. "Why didn't I notice it missing when I picked up the car originally?" Mentioned this forum. They are ordering the peg.

Got Raquel M flashed today also. As it happens, had my first flooding episode today (pre M). My contractor had moved her out of the garage and didn't let her warm up. before shut down. He now knows better. Hopefully the M will help with this also. Looking forward to improved kilometerage.

When I got my car July 2003, the mat had the hole in the wrong place. The dealer gave me a new mat (with the correct hole placement), and the bracket to hold the mat in place. They are both in my car now, and have been for about a year.

I bought my car from Performance Mazda in Ottawa, and they seem to have pretty good service.
