Mine was in the glove box. Mats were curling, but i didnt put the bracket in.
Instead I ordered the all season floor mats. Nice and thick and they dont budge after you put them in.
Plus in the winter, all the wet slush will not seep through the mat, into your floor carpet and eventually start to rust.
The mats look nice too.

I was going to say that the mats are od poor qaulity. Even my 95 Neon Sport had nicer mats than these ones. I have the hook installed. It took the dealer about 1/2 hour to do it....but the mat still comes off the hook sometimes. Better mats are a better solution.

The all weather mats dont need the hook. They are nice and thick.
They have a bunch of little "rotary's" as a pattern.
Real nice touch, and highly recommended by 4 out 5 rx8 drivers who use floor mats.

mine has build date (around 19th)Nov 2003, the mat fit correctly with the bracket. I guess any car build later than Nov, should have correct mat/bracket.

My all weather (rubber) mats with the rotary pattern have a hole for the floor mat hook.

Hmm, I didnt bother to look if my mats have the peg hole. They are simply not needed.
Dont bother with the bracket, get the all weather mats and be done with it.

I can show you how to do that: I have done it for myself and Zoom Zoom. Go to Fabricland and buy yourself a pack of "Unique" brand extra-large eyelets (24mm) in a colour of your choice (probably black or brass). Those are $8.49 for a pack of 15... so find 14 other guys who want a passenger mat done and split the cost :p ... Also, spend the extra three bucks or so and buy the Unique brand Extra large eyelet tool (Unique part number 3033109). Then just follow the directions on the back of the pack, and install the eyelet on your passenger mat in the proper location: it should take you about 4 minutes to do the job. All you have to do then is get yourself an extra floor mat bracket peg: the peg is the same for either driver or pasenger side (which makes sense when you consider that the passenger side on our cars is the driver's side on Japanese and some European cars...). Interestingly, for those really early owners who got those first mats... the ones with the eyelet in the wrong place... it will become obvious to you why that was when you set up the eyelet for your passenger mat

I am amazed at all this talk of floor mat brackets: like, a year later. Wow.

As far as getting extra floor mat brackets, I managed to get one by simply walking into a dealership (not mine) and asking the parts guy for one. Since my car didn't come with one, I also got one under warranty. Finally, I got a third one when I ordered an extra set of floor mats. Guys, if your dealership is not getting you one of these things right away, go to another dealership!

My personal tip: spend the 90 bucks and order yourself an extra set of floor mats anyway. You'll get the bracket for your passenger side mat, and nothing will spruce up your interior in a few years like a new set of mats, particularly given the rather poor quality of the carpet in this car. Conversly, ill-fitting or shoddy mats really wreck the appearance of an interior. And if you plan to sell the car privately in a few years, again: the 90 bucks you spend now will probably come back to you if the mats look good (or brand new) when you go to sell the car!

My passenger side mat now doesn't slide up and roll into a little ball when the missus gets in or out of the car.

floor mat bracket install

I went to my dealer today in West Covina, Ca.

I asked if there was a way to hook the drivers side floor mat.

He told me yes. and that probably the part required, "the hook", was in my glove department. He was right.

I have a grand touring package with power driver side seat.

He told me others have tired to install the part without sucess. He told me that you need to remove the seat. He told me that there would be a charge to have it installed at the dealer and that it would be expensive.

It is a single screw that holds the hook in place. If you have a manually adjusted seat, the screw is completely accessible and not a problem to install.

If you have a power seat, which i do, you must have a screw driver with a 90 degree head. There is only about 1.5" of clearance between the head of the screw and the seat frame.

I had a mirrow that allowed me to view the screw head to view what needed to be done. I also had a small flat head blade that allowed me loosen the screw once it was loose.

It was easy to install if you have the right tools.
