Why is there a pic of an accident beside it? The first thing i said was "that's not a G35...." The guy is an IDIOT for driving that fast, and as far as I'm concerned should have his license yanked for 10 years or more. It makes no sence and is definitely un excuseable

fixed. wouldnt want to imply you've done it. lol
I heard about this, it was all over the news the morning after it happened actually. what a jackass....150 over...how could you think thats a good idea? I mean, even if there is no one in sight on your side of the highway, if you loose control (which is pretty likely at thsoe speeds as most people arent the race car drivers they think they are) a little wall isnt gonna stop you from possibly hitting someone coming the other way and taking more lives than just your own. someone was caught doing 176km/h on the hanlon expressway recently too. the hanlon is either a 70km/h or 80km/h limit depending on what part you are on. so best case senario that guy was over twice the limit too.

I think that a good speed for the highway should be set at 120 km/h

If everyone did the speed limit, we'd remain stuck driving at speeds designed for the 70's family car.
I'm all for doing the speed limit, but listen.... if police officers drive the same speed as everyone else... guess what, just like grandma in the tercel, the officer is speeding too. In Japan, all vehicles are electronically capped to 120 Miles per hour. 120 mi. = 193.121 km. (I think there are some cases where the cap is lifted upon entering a GPS certified race way)
I don't know about you... but I think speed caps is probably the way to go. Provided they don't remove the enjoyment of driving a sports car.
You know what!? forget all this noise.... Make a law in our charter of human rights, completely prejudice against stupidity. That's right, stupidity should be illegal. Stupid people are a different species, they are not human. People can be charged for being stupid. What is stupid? ask forest gump. Let a man or woman's actions, incriminate them.
Sorry for the rant folks.... just so tired of all these stupid people, and all their stupid kids... and they just don't stop multiplying!

Agreed...but what about Germany with the Autobahn, and they have less accidents than us. Each lane or something should have a limit, fastest being 150 in my opinion and I have no problems capping a car at 160 or 170 as long as when you hit the track it is turned off, like Japan.

I don't think raising the speed limit will change much. You will still have the guy who has to be first, and drives faster than everyone else, and you'll still have the old woman doin 20 below the limit. I was in Alberta for the whole summer last year, there major highways are 110, and secondary are 100. I didn't notice the road being safer or less safe from a drivers perspective, you just drove a lil quicker lol.

And the only problem I got with the auto-capping is what happens when a new track is out... or if you go out of the country...

"Let's make this all look scary so we get more support for this illegal street racing law". Brainwashing at it's finest.

I get that, but my big problem is that they are flashing big words like "250km/h", "street racing" and that picture in the header when the person stopped was not even charged with street racing and did not even have an accident.

Now whenever the cops get on the news they say they've busted <<insert 20 times the inflated value of actual charges here>> people "street racing", when yet again, they were just speeding. No racing involved at all.
You know... I never use to have a problem with authority. I pay may taxes... i follow the laws... all that crap. Never had a problem. Then this law gets created for the few utter retards that exist out there that do stupid **** like this (which according to the number of times it's been reported on the news since this law is at about 3 people(for crazy agressive speeding)), and now the rest of us have to suffer as the guy who could only magine to get C's in highschool gets to decide if he's going to impound your car because he feels like it.
I've been pulled over and threated to be charged with under the street racing law because according to the officer:
"even though you used your turn signal, you didn't leave enough room for the car behind you"
which was his opinion. which was also wrong. he ended up giving me a ticket for an unsafe lane change which is also bullshit because I did everything required. the only reason I got the ticket was because I was following another rx-8 and the cop was just an utter ***. Oh.. and I was threaten when he gave me the ticket that if I decided to fight it he would ask the prosecutor to increase the charge to reckless driving. Way to go police! You have most definately inspired me to trust you!
I hate this law. I hate the traffic cops. I hate this Liberal Party Leading Ontario. Hell. I HATE Ontario.

i dont think the speed limits are outdated. canadians in general are terrible drivers. yes, studies show that speed isnt what causes accidents but raising the speeds would make those accidents much worse. we are so spoiled here. we have cell phones, DVD players, CD/MP3/WMA players, Ipods, Sat. radio, Nav systems (and im sure there are more gadgets im just forgetting) in our cars and we drive and play with them at the same time. Then you add in the people that think their conversation on their cell phone, or the station they are listening to or whatever is more important than the road infront of them. Now throw in people that just want to be first in line, others that wont signal, people going under the limit, people drivign way over the limit, drunk drivers, teenagers that know everything, some road rage, a few road side brake downs. its no wonder we arent all dead by now. If you increase the speeds, all this becomes even harder to deal with and the end results (accidents) have much worse effects at higher speeds. also, if the limit is now 100 and lets be honest, the fast lane moves on average just under 140. Then you increase the limit to say 120. now you have people doing 160, even up to 170 beacuse they just dont want to break that magic number. its just not a good idea. too many people here with their own cars. too many distractions and too many people that think they deserve to be first no matter what. What is really needed is the perfect public transit system. if ontario could get that done (which really isnt possible because of how spread out everyhting is) then we could eleviate alot of the congestion and fewer accidents and so on.

dude, you honestly think that a 7 day lisence/car impound and a 2000-10 000 dollar fine and some points is adequit punishiment for this kind of reckless behaviour? I know everyone's entitled to their own opinion....but well....my opinion clearly differs from yours. I just think that if he had hit another car, even nicked one, it would be over for him and whoever else was in said vehicle. that would be bad enough, but then what if that was someone i knew, or cared about. And all thats motivating stupid people to not do this sort of thing is a 2000-10 000 dollar fine and some points on their lisence. It almost seems silly to have to put a law like this in effect as you would hope citizens would be responsible enough, but maybe there should be a law saying if you are more than 100km/h over the posted limit you should lose your lisence forever and also have to walk around with "im an idiot" tattoo on your forehead.
the fact is, this guy decided it was okay to go 2.5X the legal limit. that is more than just speeding. i could almost defend somone doing 150 in a 100 if you are just space caddeting and look down and are going way faster than you though, but 250 is blatent "im going to drive as fast as i possibly can, i dont care about laws or the life of any poor person that i happen to cross paths with". you willfully chose that knowing the possible outcome. You need to be raked over the coals for it. and i honestly hope there is no getting out of this one. no suing the car manufacterer for making a car that fast. nothing. just him, paying the maximum penalty our courts allow (which should be more by about 2.5X for this specific case).

You're kidding me right? Tell me how losing his license for 10 years is a bad thing? If you get caught driving drunk (whether you're in an accident or not) you lose your license for a year, get fined, and possible jail time. With street racing, you "could" get a 7 day suspension, and you do get a fine. If you are caught again, you get suspended for up to 10 years.
So, are you trying to say the guy who gets caught for 50 km/h over the speed limit should get the same fine as the guy going TRIPLE that? Doesn't make a lot of sence to me.
