Executive Driven RX-8

My dealer has in stock 2 executively driven 8s
There is a black GS with 8000km and a black GT with 6000km. Has anyone here bought there 8 like this. I think I may go for the GT because it ends up being the same price as a new GS. And 6000km isnt that much too me.
My only concern is with the break-in. Do you guys think that this is a smart buy... or extremely dumb?

P.S. - These are definately not buy-backs. I asked specifically. There are two buy-backs on the lot as well. But iI'm not really even considering the buybacks (pretty much because the clours suck --- in my opinion)

Most likely these are DEMO cars for the dealership. So what you really have to decide is that whether it is acceptable for you to buy "Test driven" cars and evaluate that against how much you are really saving compared to a brand new car.

Just a FYI, The RX-8 GT that I test drove is the first RX-8 landed in Canada. It belonged to the President of Mazda Canada. Got everything and every options you can find on it and it is now a demo car for my dealership. Given how hard I and everyone else had driven that car, I really don't think you would want to get it.

I suspect those "Executive Driven 8's" are more or less the same thing.

I took BMW driver's course and we RAGGED on those 330Ci's. I asked what they do with them and they said they sell them as Executive Driven cars.

PS Cool course :D

What dealer is selling? If you don't want to jump on the GT, I might.

Since my old car is frozen to the ground here in the Manitoba deep freeze (-40 last night) I might as well think about getting my 8 a few months early :D

Its actually in Southern Ontario (St. Catharines). So you may be a little too far away.

You guys confirmed my fears... abused trials. I'd love a brand new car. I've never had any experience with this dealership. I'm hoping they are pretty good, they have a deacent reputation. There is only one in Niagara so... unless I want to drive up to Hamilton, Burlington or Oakville (which I will most likely do).

Anyways, I'll keep you guys updated... and thanks for the help

Mazda Canada's demo fleet is maintained by Danny Manning...regarded as the best rotary engine builder in Canada. If you can confirm that it was an MCI demo I would take the deal. You save air/gas tax, pdi and should be able to negotiate additional savings for the Kms. Most of these cars were released to dealers in the fall, so they have been "gently" broken in.

Murray, Did tou ever consider going down to Buffalo for an 8? We have 2 dealers here and I think they both have cars avalable. Exchange rate is not bad for you Canadiens right now. I'm going to Northtown Mazda on Friday and I'll see what they have. Just a thought. Go Sabres!!

You can't import a car unless it's at least two years old. At least that's what I was told by govt.

As for improper breakin, I doubt it will have much effect on the vehicle. The rotary likes to be used hard. As long as it wasn't overheated there should be no problem.

Nope, the regulations for vehicle import are documented at www.riv.ca . It looks like the RX-8 is directly eligible for import without modification (except perhaps to implement the DRLs). Miatas require rear bumper modifications to import from the US.

However, duty, PST and GST would have to be paid. Last summer, Canadian RX-8s were several thousand dollars cheaper than equivalent-spec US RX-8s after exchange rate conversions; with the recent changes in the exchange rates the prices are probably close to identical, but it still isn't worth the hassle of bringing one in, if you can get one here.

Regards,
Gordon

As well when buying and bringing it up here, you need to pay for registration and duty. this can add up to anywhere from 5- 10k more plus your taxes.
I looked into it because I was looking into buying an EVO 8, however I found a dealership here who already imported one. They were selling it for 65k, and when I contacted several dealerships in the States, they estimated that with any conversions necessary to meet our safety, registration, duty, taxes and doing the provincial as well as another type of test it needed to pass, cant remember what it was named, anyways, it would come out to the same as I found it for if not more.
For us up here, if its a matter of getting the most for your buck, get one that is already here, its cheaper, and less hassle required.

Even with the reduced exchange rate you will find that a RX-8 delivered in the states will cost the same as one delivered here. Just that now you will also have to pay duty and have the added cost of delivery/pick up.

Buy in Canada, keep the money in this country.

Yeah the RX8 isn't a deal in the US at all compared to Canada, I'd say we get a better deal.

Now the S2000 on the other hand you can save around $10,000!
