Finally got my RX-8 (Calgary)

wow 210 .. why am I getting shitty mileage.
if I drive very carefully ( change gear at ~ 3k rpm).. no red line... minimal rush hour I get ~ 190-200km/half a tank. thats usually Mon to Fri to and from school (10am class so I dodge the morning rush hour)
if I drive with a bit more spirit, a few red line, change gear at ~ 5-6k rpm.. I get ~ 150-160km/half a tank .
except for long highway road trip driving, i've yet to be able to break 200km/half a tank.

I usually get about 340km's before the light goes on. This is in rush hour traffic conditions. My mileage is way better on highway cruises even if I have my foot into it doign 9k runs.
I never got any better mileage by driving at low revs...besides what's the point? Why buy a car that revs to 9k and not use it.

I consistently get 420-ish km a tank...A little bit of city driving, the rest is more open road (Crowchild). It gets a little worse sometimes when i get stuck in traffic, but it doesn't happen too often. Redline doesn't seem to affect it that much, because I shift right at redline when it beeps, I don't hold it at redline or high rpms for long period of time.
I have gotten 510-ish km on my long road trip to Vancouver.
Also, the gas mileage went up a bit as more km was put on the engine...I was getting 360-ish km early in my ownership (might be my shifting...might be engine, though many have said their gas mileages have improved as engined mileage grew)

I usually get anywhere from 380 to 410 to a tank in mixed stop and go / suburbia traffic. Other than the recalls I haven’t had any problems with my 8 (04 SS M6 GT). I pretty much treat it the way I did my 1st gen RX7 (which I sold after 9 years – Kids come, car goes – with 179,000 trouble free Km)
Anyone feel free to add their comments, but this is what works for me.
I never go above 4000 rpm until it is fully warmed up. (Once warm I hit at least 5000 before shifting)
I always hit 8500 to9000 rpm at least a couple of times every time I take it out. (I have never had any problem with carbon buildup)
I don’t worry about gas mileage.
I check the oil level every third tank of fuel and don’t add any unless I can put in a full liter. (The oil in your rotary not only provides lubrication but actually is required to help cool the engine)
I change the oil ever 5000Km.
I never start the 8 cold and shut it off before it warms up.
Oh, Cloud7 – wipe the smile off your face. Have fun.

just filled up today because the low fuel light came on... I was able to go 377 km on approximately 50L of fuel... apparently there is still 10L worth of fuel when the light came on. So, I estimate that I could have gone approx. 450km on a tank of fuel... so about 13 L/100 km I guess.

Nice!! Time for some mods!! I only get about 330kms before its time to fill up. And I don't even rev the car that much all the time. I do shift at 4000 (when the temp is good) when driving regularly.
