I got 270 KM on the last 50 litre fill-up. That's 13.17 MPG!!

This was half city and half highway driving. So that's 17.86 litres/100 KMs. Mazda.ca says city should be 12.8 and highway should be 9.2. So half city, half highway should be about 11. So I'm getting >50% worse mileage than Mazda says I should.

Interesting...

maybe its all that camping gear you carry?! :D

I think KHTM was idling his car to scare off the mosquitoes while "camping" in the woods.

But seriously ... dude that's harsh! What were you at before?

29.86L/100km
52.91L = 177.2 km. Ultra 94.
Beat that!
I thought small engines = fuel efficient?

Remember that Mazda isn't saying anything about your mileage -- the government of Canada is.

Mazda knows that no one is going to hit anywhere close to that number, but they can't change it. They are required by law to put that sticker on the car with the numbers that the government of Canada requires that they put there.

Things have gone from good to better since my last posting:
https://www.rx8club.com/canada-forum-35/got-get-going-61482/

My tripometer is showing 440km and I still have just under a quarter tank. I hoping to get 500 by tomorrow.

I tried just driving 5-10km over the posted speed limit for this tank. I still give'er on onramps and redline at 150kph.

PS. Don't hate me

I'm sort of in disbelief myself. I was going to wait to post until I tried another tankful next week but this thread came up and I didn't feel like bumping it then.

Anyway, the only thing that has sort of been different with this fillup is that I put in 92 octane and it has been pretty much 99 percent highway driving. As stated in my previous thread I'm usually 89 octane with 95 % highway. I can't see 92octane+99% highway-5kph = 50 km more. Maybe the warmer weather is a factor but I was under the impression that cooler weather was more favourable to better gas mileage.

I'll find out next week though.

I use cruise constantly. I even found out that the cruise won't engage at 20kph.

That's just it...highway cruising. I got 5 mpg better on the highway than what I get on my best days in the city. It would have been even better if I had stayed out of the gas a bit more and kept it undr 130khms.

The RX8 doesn't not get good mileage in stop and go traffic.......

^^I realize that, but I'm always highway driving, why all of a sudden do I get 50 or more km doing practically the same thing.

Yep, it only works 30kph and higher, as per the manual.

So you say you always highway drive...have you ever driven just city? What MPG did you get then? Just curious if you have a super-car or something

I live far from everything (work, family) so it's always highway. You're right about the super car though, yellow is always faster/better than the other colors it has been scientifically proven

I filled up last night with the tripometer reading 491km and put in 51L of gas.

Maybe my car was built on a Monday.

Filled up on Sunday. 53 litres and 392km on the odometer. That's all city driving. It's been pretty consistent since I got her last November. Doesn't seem to make much difference how I drive....foot in it, or granny shifting. Foot in it definitely more fun!!

I do about 400km at the most with 50/55 liters, since I don't wait until I am completely empty ...HAHAHA

That's some good mileage for 100% city driving, Damn! I can only wish I had that. How many KMs do you have on the car? I have 10 K and I always have to fill up around 300 kms.

I don't think so. I believe that the Prius is faster than a silver RX8 :D

Just for the fun of it I have been doing an economy run around Canmore,Lake Louise, and Radium Springs---I achieved 560 kms on 50.6litres of gas--about 9.3l/100km.It is possible to achieve the Transport Canada rating.
