But, I'm not going to goto sunoco anymore because they just increased the price from 12cents extra to 14 cents extra a few days ago.. Sounds trivial but it kinda pissed me off for some reason. I'm now going to use 91 from another gas station!!
Any suggestions??

I've read some other guys saying Petro Canada 91 Octane is best. So that is what I have been using not that my consumption has improved by any means - I still hope time will improve the 250-320 km/tank I get....Then again I don't anticipate hearing the BEEP less often so I presume I will still play my role in destroying natural resources for some time...
A lot of guys note gr8 consumption ( 9l/100km!!!) when they cruise at 100-110km/h - thats all nice but I dont believe that's what this car was built for right?

I get about 300 - 350 with sunoco 94 and I do about 80km a day on the highway and then the remaining in the city. The one thing that is weird is last year i used to get about 400km/tank, i don't know if it's because i may drive the car harder now(i think i drive the same as last year) or my milage has decreased. I'm going to try petro from now on. I enjoy hearing the beep often, I hope the performance doesn't decrease. I guess i'll have to experiment :D

I'm thinking maybe i should plug up one exhaust and hope the 91 OCT doesn't flow out of it like it does at this moment!

I've been driving to my new office in Oakville from Newmarket for just about 2 months now (200+km round trip daily)....all highway at an average of 120+kph. My mileage is at about 400km to 50L fill.....not too bad considering the fun I have on the first bit of the drive through the Aurora/King City back roads and the sweeping 407 on/off ramps :D

Yes I love on ramps, but i'm noticing my tires are kinda squeeking now if i'm going about 2.5 times the posted rate (30km/h on ramp = 75km)

Just did a quick road trip to Edmonton yesterday for business. 488 kms on 49.95 litres. 10.235 l/100 km. Not too bad! Basically on cruise control at 125 km/hr for most of the trip. Really tempting to go faster for extended period with the light traffic, but a few RCMP spotted along the way.

On my brand new car
I got 422 on my dealer-supplied tank. Filled up, 51.3L
This next tank is Sunoco 94 , i'll see how it does.
I'm not too unhappy with that - the complaints I've heard about mileage - its better than my Talon or my RX7 ever got...

you guys are making me jealous.
usually 91 octane but sometimes 94 octane from petro-canada.
my car sees 90% city driving and i get approximately 280 KM per tank.
although i just came back from a road trip that got me a 600KM tank !

Those numbers are really bad....
I've been experimenting with my Rotary.
I usually get around 400 km / tank if I shift at redline most of the time.
and
600 km / tank if I cruise. Shifting at 2.5k - 3k.
Both numbers are for Hwy/city is half / half.
On highway, I cruise at around 3000 - 3500 rpm going around 120kph.
I have a gas guzzling 1990 normally aspirated RX-7
And I only fill up with 87 Octane.
150 000 km on engine right now

Hmm...
I've been lucky to get 320 on a tank of gas (mixed driving, probably 60% City)
I'm trying to stick to 91 or 94 Petro Canada gas, but have tried Sunoco94 a few times as well. Nothing seems to help me get better mileage. I'm going to take it in for the reflash soon I think, or wait until the recall if I'm affected.
One time, I drove mostly on Highway 7 the whole way, averaging 95 km/h. Part of the trip (60km) was on 35/115 and averaging 118 km/h... managed to get 480 km. Weird...

I got about 360km on my first tank from the dealer when the warning light came on, not too bad for initial break in period. I drive a GS.
How's driving on 87 octane gas btw? I read some people have had good results in terms of mileage with it. I'm really surprised the car can take 87 octane, it's actually stated in the owner's manual!

first fill = bad gas mileage?
I too have a new GS. I am almost through my first tank of gas and it looks like I will only get about 350 kms for 50L (conservative, low RPM city driving only). I'm using 91 octane. Does this seem like normal gas mileage during the break-in period? Can I expect it to get better? When can I take the RPM up to 10,000? I'm dying here.... :p

Lancesir ... driving 87 octane is fine but you'll notice that the performance of the car is slightly lowered (ie. WOT redline takes longer to achieve). This makes sense because the ECU is detecting the earlier detonation hence retarding the engine a bit. It's fine if you do daily driving. Mileage is improved slightly in my experience.
Ghostrider, your mileage is not bad for a new vehicle. That translates to roughly 17mpg (theoretical is about 18mpg city). For us Canadians that's 13.5-14L/100km (theoretical is 12.8L/100km). Or if you like ... theoretically you are supposed to get 390km/50L tank. My mileage did get better with time (I use to get 260-290/50L tank ... now it's 340-360/50L tank all city)
As to redlining ... you can redline anytime you want but I guess it depends how **** you are about the break-in. I only did it after about 2500km. do a search for break in tips.
