I just got the M flash 1 day ago.. I hope this will help my mpg's out.. I'm getting about 290-300km per tank with sunoco 94 and have 5700km on the car.
With the M flash.. I do notice the ride and idle a bit smoother and a bit more low end torque. I'll let you know if the flash helps out..

Just got back from a spirited drive from KW to Haliburton via the back roads (stayed a few days). It was 3rd and 4th most of the way and I still got 320km on less than 50 l with the buzzer going off every so often. I highly recommend the Hockley Valley drive for fun on twisties.

Mostly city driving will kill the gas mileage. But your engine is still breaking in. Give it at least 1000-200km before it loosens up.
When I first got mine I was getting about 320-350 out of a tank, now I'm at 9000km and I'm getting about 420-450/tank.
Don't worry about the gas mileage just yet. Just take it easy and keep the revs down until it's broken in.

Consumption
Mine, with AT , M flash, now @~2000 Km, and using 91 octane or better ( Sunoco 94 every fourth tank as recommended by the dealer), is getting somewhat improved 'mileage': approx 320 KM when down to a quarter tank. Haven't let it go any lower. Am driving to Timmins next week, and will keep at the local limits above Muskoka as the OPP and Regionals' enforcement from North Bay onward is usually very strict.
It should give a clearer picture of highway consumption.. the dealer told me to keep a record and bring it when I get the first service when I return. They apparently will hook it up to a portable computer and test drive it to diagnose unusually high consumption.

Saint75, how can you tell if you got your flash done? After talking with the service guys, they just said that they have done all the updates to the ECU from my last service visit. M-flash is a foregin word at dealer services .

I wouldn't hold my breath for improved gas mileage ...
12,000KM on my RX8. I live downtown so I go through alot of stop and go traffic. I've also taken two road trips.
Here's my story:
City (mostly downtown driving): 250-280 km per tank (50 Litres)
City (downtown + Freeways) : 320 km per tank
HWY (non-stop) : 500 km per tank

Lower octane (for us it's 87) will give a bit better mileage, but you will loose a bit of performance, vice versa for 91+ octane. The higher octane will burn cleaner too, if you notice the black smudges on your muffler tips, it's because of this. The flash will help with this too. Look up Polak he wrote a great detailed description on what the flashes do.

I have my photocopy in front of me so I can you give the correct info...if they play 'dumb', tell them it's on the Mazda Ca site, Dealers Lounge ....the header is: eMATE Pr-Service-Inquire Recall SSP .
