gave my 8 a gift

Just installed a 12" MTX-6000 dual voice coil subwoofer in a ported box with a MTX 4001 power amp. Sounds nice when the gain and bass boost turned up max. However, as soon as i lower the gain like a quarter a turn, the woofer really dies down. I was forced to use a line converter to convert the rear speaker voltage to a usable RCA level which feed my amp. Mabe it's because of that? I dont know. Anyways i just hope i don't fry my alternator or drain my battery. Other than that, the amp is a class D, so arround 80% power efficient. It shouldn't shut off due to thermal protection. How about any of you guys. What kind of sound systems have you installed in your 8's, if any?

I have a 12"fosgate sub in a sealed box with a 600W fosgate Amp. I also installed a couple of tweaters in the front to crisp up the highs and it's definitely worked out perfectly.

I would love to get a more ergonomic box to increase some free space in the trunk but other than that no other upgrades on the horizon

if it only sounds good when you have the bass boost AND the gain turned up all the way, you have the wrong amp for your needs, or you have the subs wired wrong. by having it turned up all the way, you will most likely either blow the subs or burn up the amp very quickly.

My amp is a class D so i don't think the amp will burn out. The amp is rated for 400W RMS at 2 ohms stable even though it only pushes 250. Both of my voice coils are connected in parallel, so 4 ohms in parallel with 4 ohms is 2 ohms. The sub can handle the power. But tell me, what kind of conversion methods you guys used to connect your amps?

you totally missed my point. but now i have more info, i will try to break it down a little further for you.

it is not whether or not the subs can handle the 400 watts the amp can put out. it is how much distortion that amp is creating, running at 2 ohms (which most mtx amps can do no problem, but the lower the resistance, the more distortion), with the BASS BOOST AND THE GAIN turned all the way up, is just going to be insane.

those 6000 series subs, if i remember correctly want to see about 250 watts each. and you are running an amp that puts out 400. you should be using a bigger amp, 500 to 600 watts, unless you have something hooked up wrong for signal.
