Good time to buy RX-8?
I find that you can't get much in terms of discounts now, 2% over invoice. The good thing is that the 24mth lease rate is 1.9%.
I'm told that starting may, freight/pdi charge of 1195 will go up. From experience, how are the rates towards Christmas?
I'm debating whether to wait it out and get a better discount come Christmas time or after new year. Not sure of the rates though.
For those that are leasing, how much did you pay for accessories? As posted on the net or did the dealer charge for installation. They are quoting me 20% installation fee and then giving me 10% discount.
What fees shoud you pay on the lease?
Thank you.

The best rates are in the winter. Dealers get incentives from Mazda tand the new model year is not far away. I got mine for 590 a month taxes in on 4 years 20k per year. The best quote my dealer gave me now was about 630 on the same conditions. Buying a sports car in the summer does not give you good deals.
As for the accessories, I think you will be able to get about 500CAD for free. If you haggle you can get rid of some upfront charges. (I don’t remember which ones)
Overall you will pay about 2000CAD more if you buy now. More importantly though Mazda might make the 07 model better, so it might be worth to wait for that.

I'm set on the SE model. Right now, I'm looking at about 2-2.5k discount. It's unclear yet as to how much it might be as I have a trade-in. Between the two, I wan't 6500 off.
I find that they want to screw you on the trade and don't want to give much in terms of discounts. I will stand my ground on those as I'm in no hurry to get the vehicle now. It they give me what I want, then it's a different story.
The only risk I'm running is the new model having some improvements. The rumor is that a convertible and a two door (rx-7) might be joining the lineup?
When are the '07s coming out, September?

You always get a better deal if 1) you know what you want 2) You are absolutely prepared to leave 3) you firmly remember that they absolutely need to sell you a car.
Don't think about the car or the fun you will have. Don't take you significant other until the papers are signed. Don't let your guard down until the 'business' manager tries to get you to sign up for wax and scotch guard and extended warranty and a pile of other crap.
Good luck.

I bought my 2006 at 2% over invoice. I've been following this car since its birth in 2001. I think it is a good time to buy because finally Mazda had managed to addressed all of the major issues concerning this car.

The best time to buy an RX-8 is right now! Reason being... have you seen the special edition!? (Copper Red, full satin finish on the wheels, alcantara inserts on the seating surfaces). What a great combination of aesthetics.
The side strakes are actually standard on that model! That's pure magic! Whoever thought to do that is a veritable genious.

Model year end and winter/late fall sales are the best time for buyers, but obviously with an RX-8 in Canada, they might not the the best time for drivers. Follow the advice as above - be prepared, be aware, and be ready to leave if they don't offer what you want. However, remember that this is a negotiation - if you're being unreasonable, they'll refuse to sell.
Keep in mind that regardless of the purchase price that the financing costs can make/break the deal. Remember back last year when the financing rate was 1.9% for four years? Eeek. That's great - less than $2K borrowing costs over four years. Waiting until the rate climbs to around 4% will just cost you more money in the long term.

You're kidding. Were are you located? I'm picking up mine tomorrow. Between the dealers that I made a contact with, there are probably 20 SEs.
Edit: Ok, I see you are in Calgary. I'm in Ontario, lots in here and it doesn't look like they have been selling all that well. Haven't seen any on the road yet. Mine will be the first.
Here, 2k off is fairly easy, but you can get 2.5k off if you do your homework.

The dealer won't let you walk out the door on a difference of $500 - you can push for more, and see what they say - so $2.5K vs. $2K is easy. If you make a big push, like $4K, they'll likely refuse you the sale. They won't sell you something that they won't make any money off of!

If he can't do much, I can give you a real good person to deal with. Good luck.
I assume you don't have a trade-in, don't mention your downpayment or how you want to structure the deal. Just talk price, tell them that you want to get a good deal and details you can work on later. Bottom line, don't waste your time. You should get a commitment over the phone as to the discount and you really go in to finalize the deal and sign the papers.
Edit: I would aim for 2.5k or 2k including a spoiler or some other accessory of similar value (installed it's 600 or so plus tax).

Another point is that King ... I mean Prime Minister Harper just did the cut on the GST, so if you buy after his policy is in effect, that'll save a bit more cash.

Why would you want to put $25K down on a car? If you have $25K in cash sitting around, invest some of it, and put the rest as a downpayment to bring the financing payments into an affordable range for your monthly budget. If you have $25K just lying around with nothing better to do, sure, put it into the payments on an RX-8, but you've got to have better uses for it than that...

Originally, I was going to buy a 330i and was planning to put 30k down and a trade-in. My objective was to reduce the monthly payment and the overall interest that I paid on the car as the financing rate was close to 7%.

I'm pissed
Ok, I'm pissed...The 24% mth lease rate just got reduced from 1.9% to 0%.
I think I'm paying close to 1200 in interest. That would've saved me around 50/mth.
Does anyone know the effective date? My application is dated April 24th.

Putting a larger down payment on a car that has a relatively high financing rate (i.e. like 7%) makes sense - on a $40K RX-8, with around 0 to 2% financing it doesn't make a lot of financial sense, since investing in just about anything will yield better than the financing rate. If you have that kind of money sitting around, like I said, go ahead and put the large down payment in place. The monthly payments, however, don't change much between $10-15K of down payment.
Debt ratio has nothing to do with it - you'll still have the $25K as an asset. The car financing and the asset cross each other out, so you have the same amount 'owing' either way.

a lot of the time they will give you like 2000 off if you pay cash and do not take the sponsored interest rate
if you already effectivly paying this amount by taking the mazda financing then your correct and he would be better off investing
the best thing to do is, pay cash, take the 2 grand, and finance the last 15 k through a bank

2000 off is very easy to get, 2,500 more difficult.
Hell, if you want to buy the vehicle and get 2k off, I can probably arrange it for you (of course the dealer would pay me $50 for my troubles ). You have to know your price and be prepared to make a deal when they say yes. Not too many will give you written quotes as they know the matching game.
Edit: that 1% GST tax cut takes effect in July, but only if the budget/bill passes.

One advice, don't waste your time. If you don't have a trade in, you tell him that you want 2k off, at least, and give him your phone number or e-mail and tell him that he has until so and so to respond. Otherwise, you will go somewhere else. All the time, be polite and tell him that you like the dealership and would like to deal with them.
What trim are you looking to get?
Let me know how it goes.

That's a nice color. I like the two-tone leather, black and brown. I've seen it on a black GT, very nice.
That's good you don't have a trade-in. It should be a much 'cleaner' negotiation - less room for playing with numbers.
