Got my eye on the rx8
I'm buying a car this spring and the RX8 looks like a great buy. I've read about the flooding problems, but not from canadian owners. Do any of you guys find it a hassle from preventing it from happening. Also is there a difference in performance for the GT and the GS. The GT has Dynamic Stability Control and the GS doesn't, does it make a difference?

I haven't had any trouble with flooding my 8, and its been damn cold around Edmonton lately.
The traction control and other features you get on the GT model are definately worth it, especially if you get snow in your area. For the extra few thousand dollars the GT package is a bargain for what you get as far as I'm concerned.

Hey my friend is visiting cagary, he said he hasn't seen a RX8 on the road yet, so they must be pretty rare over there. Thanks for the help.

I've got 12000 km on my 8, and never had a problem with flooding. It's pretty easy to avoid. The stability control is excellent to have in winter, but one thing to remember to plan for is that the stock performance summer tires are completely useless in winter (this goes for any car with performance summer tires, not just the RX-8). If you're going to drive in winter conditions, you HAVE to get winter tires, period. With all the extras in the GT package (leather, DSC, HID lights, etc.) it's definitely worth the extra price, it's actually a bargain for what you get.

I shut it off cold once absentmindedly, I drove about 3 minutes from my house to the gas station and shut it off without thinking. It was about -20C outside and it started up without problem about 5 minutes later when I came out of the gas station and the temp gauge hadn't even started to rise when I shut it off, maybe I just got lucky.

You didn't just "get lucky." The fact is, most owners have never and will never flood regardless of what they do.
